Factory Sliding Rear Window Leaking
 

2001 F150 Supercrew Lariat, the back window is the factory sliding window, it is leaking around the top on the drivers side, leaks bad. Question is how easy is it to remove the window and replace the seal?

It looks like it has all the details, but Use at your own risk!

Its pretty easy, you just need to take out the headliner and some other interior parts to get to the window. Once you take the interior apart, you will see the bolts that hold the window in. Go to the autoparts store and buy some Butyl Tape.
Now, some people have problems with the window housing being broke. So you might need to fix the housing also while you have the window out.

I just had mine fixed at a body shop it didn't cost that much. I am not sure how they fixed it but it dosen't leak now!

on the supercrew, you fold the rear seats forward and remove the 3-4 plastic screw clamps holding the trim under the window. then you pry out the plastic cover over each rear door post, around the window. you have to remove the seat belt bolt first. grab the plastic cover at the top rear edge and pull hard, there are 3-4 clips that pop off. next, pull the head liner down 3-4 inches at the top of the window so you can get your hand up behind it to remove the 4 attachment nuts on the window lip. the same clamps will be visible below the windwo and sides of window when the trim is off... after getting the 12 screw nuts (i think) off, you pry out one corner of the window with a small wedge, then work your way around to push it out toward the truck bed.. buy a new bytle rope seal as the guys said at Auto Zone, and install.. note that the old rope will not be sealed at the top of the drivers side-- always the same spot.--- pull the bolts down tight in sequence like a wheel when reinstalling.

after taking off the 3rd brake light I found that the plastic is cracked right next to the light...Do I have to replace the trim or just reseal the window? Will it leak because of the crack in the plastic trim? I don't feel like buying new trim for a tiny crack that I don't notice unless it leaks...I had my daughter pour water over the window while I was inside the cab and I can see that it is leaking between the window and the body where the black goup is...

the plastic trim is just for looks. you can leave it there and pop the window out and replace the butyl seal. just look at the photo and read the procedure in the past posts.

^^^X2^^^ If you want you could just JB weld the crack so it doesnt get bigger.

Just want to thank you guys for the links and posts. Did my rear window Sunday and it is good to go. It took about 1.5 hours (Mostly cleaning the old sealant off). I found the butyl tape at O'Reilly's. 3m part# 08612. $22.00 for a 15 foot roll. Just some info on cleaning the cab, after using the old glob of sealant to get most of it off. I used a plastic scraper to not scratch the metal on the cab and then wiped off the rest with paint thinner and rags. Again thanks for links with pictures it helped a lot.
