Expedition Diesel!!!

Ford Motor Company, Are you listening?!?!?!?!?

Chevy has the Tahoe hybrid and variable displacement in the 1500 and the Tahoe and they still gake good power. Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Duragno and Dakota are offering the Benz diesel that can tow up to 9,000 lbs and gets 25 MPG solo.

I want a Expedition diesel and I want to tow my 10,500 lbs camper with it.

riverratt 01-03-2008 08:28 AM

Not gonna happen!

berry1234 01-03-2008 11:05 AM

All the Ford diesel trucks in our fleet never get anywhere near the listed MPG. They get about the same as the gas trucks. Plus the cost of diesel is outrageous.

mnmwhit 01-03-2008 05:16 PM

I have a 6.0 in my F-350 and I love it. I get 13 MPG towing a 10,500lbs camper no gas rig will ever do that. I want a diesel SUV and I will get one this summer. Hopefully Ford will have something for me by then. Should b pretty easy, after all they are gong to put a diesel in the F-50 this year and that is about the same chassis. Other wise my wife will be driving the Jeep diesel. Our Excursion is ready to be replaced. Oh yea, I get 20 mpg on the highway with that big heavy thing.

I have owned Starke Koa Kampground for the last 8 year's,trust me when I say I've seen it all or most of it ,I own a 2002 F350 7.3 PSD,4 speed auto,4:10's, 4 door long bed dullie pulling a 2004 sunnybrook 31 bwks,32 ft 5'th wheel with 3 slide's,at the truck stop scale I weigh 20900#'s,I get 9-11 MPG loaded and 15 -17 empty depending on head wind's,hill's and the big one "SPEED",In the park now I have 2-2008's,one same boady style as mine except it's a F450 with the 6.4 PSD and the 5 speed auto with the 4:30's pulling a new landmark 38 ft with 4 slide's,he get's 7 MPG top's loaded and 13-14 empty, the other a F350 extended cab short bed,4x2, not a dullie, with the V10 and 5 speed auto, pulling a new bighorn 39 ft with 4 slide's,he get's 9 MPG loaded and 14 MPG empty, never ever compare the older pre regin diesel truck's with the new one's with the regin crap, let's see,2 x's the amt of oil in the crankcase, dubble the price of oil filter's,ungodly price's for fuel filter's and a what, $5000.00 up charge for the diesel over the V10,it used to be fun having a diesel but at $0.30- $0.40 a gal premum on diesel who need's it,love my old 7.3,but it's the last diesel I'll own,the EPA has gone nut's with this,go to www.forddieseldoctorsdts.com/,click on article's and go down to the diesel emission's article and look at the graph of diesel emission reduction's from 1991 tell now,it's nut's and job security at the epa, they will not rest tell they get pure oxygen at the tailpipe, thank's EPA for screwing up a great thing.

well said. add reliability too.

mnmwhit 01-04-2008 07:28 PM

You are comparing apples and oranges. I dont think they will ever put a V-10 in the expedition. And the 5.4 just doesn't do the trick. The fuel mileage sucks, and it lacks power just doesn't cut it. If I could get a diesel like the 4.4 I have been reading about that will be going in the F-150, I would buy it. Rate it to pull 10,000 lbs and I am in. I rented a Range Rover with that diesel when I was in europe great driving experience!!.

............An FYI for you,my wife bought an 2007 expedtion last summer,we now have over 22,000 mile's on it,5.4 with the 6 speed auto and 3:31 rear end,the 3 valve 5.4 and the 6 speed flat get's out and run's,has to be the close gearing in the lower gear's!!!,it has the dubble over drive and at 60 MPH the motor is ONLY turning over 1500 RPM,it the best of both world's,low end grunt, high end MPG,it hate's ALL in town driving getting 14.5-15,do mixed towm and HWY and we are up to 17-18,took a trip from Starke to Orlando 140 mile's ALL hwy with 3 stop's for toll's on the turnpike and 2 light's on 535 and filling it the neck both time's it took 6 gal's to go the 140 mile's from the murphy at the Starke walmart to the walmart on 535 3-4 mile's south of I-4, that's 23.3 MPG, NOT TO SHABBIE, keep in mind,I dont drive like a bat out of hell with my superduty or the expedtion and when I hit 45 MPH I back off the gas so it shift's it high a little quicker and I keep my speed around 65 MPH ALL the time,I have more time than money to piss away on $3.00 a gal gas driving 75-80 MPH and them bitchen about low MPG, dont knock it tell you own one of the new one's,it's your $$$$$$$$$$$'s,buy what you want and be happy, diesel or gas, in the end we all live with our choice's,get the range rover or benz make's a diesel SUV,some of the RV MFG'S in the Frightliner frame's are using the Benz motor's and blowing the CAT'S and Cummin's away on MPG in the class A motor home's weighing in at 35,000 #'s and up,an the smaller class c motor home's,the F350-F450 size the frightliner's have been getting as high as 16 MPG,dodge ,ford and chevy can't match that no way, with diesel at $0.30-$0.40 cent's over gas my superduty has been spanding a lot of time it the shed and the expedtion has been doing all the running except when I need to haul something BIG,no one will argue the fact that the 7.3's alway's do better on MPG than any 6.0 or the new 6.4's,every time the EPA put's new reg's into law our millage fall's off some more,go to the www.forddoctorsdts.com/ site and click on article's ,then go to EGR cleaning and also 6.0 turbo recondtioning and read,it's UGLY.

scottie2hottie 01-05-2008 10:53 AM

I agree with above.....the 5.4 is a much stronger motor than you're giving it credit. My buddy has the same year 5.4 as my 7.3L and pound for pound he can almost pull with me, he does have lower gears though....and doesn't get near fuel mileage. I can pull 13 MPGs in either of my powerstrokes pulling my 3K flatbed and a 6K truck on the back. He'll get about 8.

.............you have to drive the 3 valve to believe it,the 3 valve 5.4 V8 and 6.8 V10 came out in 2005 and the 6 speed came out in 2007,it's all about air flow into and out of the motor.

mnmwhit 01-11-2008 02:31 PM

OK I have driven the 5.4 3 valve with a 6 speed. It was pretty nice. But I would still prefer a diesel. I think it is a matter of personal preference. I do tow my camper (10,000lbs) alot in the summer and I think a diesel is better suited for the job I would just like to tow it with an SUV.

Ford needs to get with the program. Chevy just announced they are going to put a smaller 300hp Dura Max in the Suburban this year.

check the link and scroll down to the suburban

If you tow 10,000 pounds a lot then you need a 3/4 ton chassis.

..................you are 110% right, never ever run right at the limit of your tow vehicle,be safe with a built in fudge factor by having extra capacity in your tow vehicle and some state's are starting to crack down on overloaded tow's with big $$$$$$$$$$$ fine's.

builtfordtough13 01-13-2008 11:25 AM

It will probably come out just after the 10' F-150.

mnmwhit 01-13-2008 11:50 PM

2010 will be too late for me......if it takes that long I will probably get the chevy suburban with the diesel and a 3/4 ton chassis
