Shift lever adjustment?
 

My 99 F-350 has recently begun to get a little sloppy in the shift lever department. Sometimes when I put it in park, it does'nt quite seem to get there. It will roll forward or backward depending on the grade and it will make a click sound and almost stop at each click. It's like a pin isn't fully set. It is also a bit sloppy in the other gears. Has been for a while, but the Park thing is what caught my attention. It seems there should be an adjustment on the cable somewhere, but I didn't see anything obvious. Any thoughts?

The clicking is probably your parking pawl inside of your transmission. It may be worn or cracked. No adjustment is going to fix that.

my shifter feels loose, but it shifts into drive, park, reverese with no issues. can you just tighten the shift lever.

Could be your shift bushings on your column. My shifter was very loose and sloppy. I checked the teo small torx bolts under the column that normally come loose and they were tight. The column bushings were around six bucks and very easy to swap out. Just remove the clan shell and lower the column buy removing the four bolts that hold it up. I lowered the column so the steering wheel rested on the seat. After I replaced the bushing the slop was about 90% gone so there still may be some wear where the shifter mounts into the column but that's for another day. Feels much better, before it felt like I was going to break the shifter forcing it to move.
The second pic shows the new bushings in place, just have to put the caps over and bolt them down.

Is the bottom picture what it looks like when you drop the steering column?

Yep, here are the caps covering the bushings. I added a little grease in the bushing to smoother action. You'll see that rod (that the bushings surround) have freeplay as you move the shifter. That translates to a sloppy shifter. You can also buy the entire rod from Ford which they suggested but a tech walked in and said they usually just change the bushings.

Just a follow up on what I found...I took the panel off below the steering column and looked around at what was there. I was looking for the two torx bolts locknload refered to. I found them and they were in fact really loose. I could turn them with my fingers. They hold an assembly tp the bottom of the shifter column that connects to the shifter cable and also apparantly to the starter interlock switch. I tightend these up and PRESTO! everything feels much better. I'll still do the bushings, when it gets above freezing outside....
