Natural gas?
ok, so my 79 4x4 runs on propane and i dont have a big tank (i just use bbq tanks, dont last long enough) so i was looking for a bigger tank... i found a guy who has 2 full natural gas tanks (from a saskpower truck) so im wondering if the truck will run on natural gas as is? or do i have to change anything over?
right now the truck cant be switched to gas, there is no carb on it.. just the throttle body, only the lines for the propane, one gas tank has been removed, the other isnt hooked up or anything ( and stupid me put gas in it haha ) soooo... anyone know if i could run natural gas? i know nothing lol |
i would think not. the burning temps are different, as would be the pressures. i know a propane stove won't burn natural gas, or vise versa. the orifices have to be changed.
Probably it would, like Sherm says, need changes. I`d be tempted to put a carb on it to go back to gasoline.
What`s the cost driving on propane? |
looks like that rewind/delete button will get some use again... :) i'd do that though...sooner burn gas and have the baby running happy and perky on good gas.
Yipe for the delete, guess that`s why it`s there.... :-missingt
I don't think so you need larger orifices for natural gas. But I have been wrong before and I will be wrong again.
I don`t know if the orifices are larger or smaller but I was told that they are different for a furnace in some way.
Where`s all our plumbers and heating experts? Another thing about natural gas is that I`ve heard it takes a long time, like over night, to refuel a vehicle. I`m not real sure if that`s still true or if if the refueling time have improved..... |
I have a large tank for propane that was mounted in the back of my 91 supercab sb 4x4. You can have it if you want it.
Is there certification still left on it or is it out dated?
On my tank I have no idea if it is certified or not. All I can tell you is when I took it off of the truck it still held propane just fine.
If there isn`t a current certification it won`t be refilled until there is IF it can pass.
you converted it back to gasoline prep??
I too have 2 propane tanks that have been laying on the ground at my place. I was just going to put them with scrape metal. They came of a chevy propane tow truck. I don't need them here.
They would probally need to be cleaned and recertified. |
Yeah I converted it back. I was kind of interested in using the propane but then I did buy the truck to work on it and sell it, and propane usually isnt much of a selling feature.
