1999 f250 7.3 water pump replacement
how hard is the water pump to replace on 1999 f250 7.3
any thing special i need to know before tackling this job also is there any step by step instructions thanks in advance for any info |

Pretty simple really. I had the hardest time seperating the fan from the waterpump. I ended removing it as a unit and taking it to a shop and having them take it apart.
Let us know if you run into any problems, but I don't see you having any issues. Buy a new waterpump, not a reman. |
I ended up purchasing the special wrench for the big shaft nut, biggest part is having something to hold the shaft from turning when you first break it loose. Also the water pump mounting bolts are three different lengths, so keep track of which ones go where. I also found some Dow Corning 111 silcon grease handy to hold the pump
O-Ring gasket in place when it was being mounted. |
I opted to pull the radiator to give more room to work. Don't know how much it help, but it's not that hard to pull and I did have plenty of room to work. Not too hard to do. Good luck and let us know if you run into any problems.

I actually used a pipe wrench for the big nut. keep the belt in place and its right handed thread. just hit the pipe wrench with a hammer and mine loosened rightup. pretty easy i thought. make sure the mating surface is clean before install.

I also had problems with removing the fan when I changed the water pump on my truck. But, when I replaced the pump on my dads truck, he had talked to a diesel mechanic, and he informed him of a simple way to get the fan off. He said to take an air chisel with the flat blade and place it toward one of the corners of the nut and squeeze the trigger and it will come right off. So I tried it and within 15 seconds I had his fan off. That trick worked like a charm for me. Hope this helps

removing the radiator and shroud give a lot more room to work I also replaced the thermostat as the housing gasket is part of it |
I replaced the water pump with out any problems thanks for all the help this is a great site save me a lot of money.

Water pump leak
I need someone to tell how to fix a leak on the t-stat housing on a water pump for a 2000 7.3

It's best to start a NEW thread, using T-stat housing as the "subject" ... this one pretty old..

Welcome to the site, and Clint is right, this is an old thread. A new one started by you will get a lot more attention. I'm really not sure what to tell you, but you will get lots of good advice from them folks.
