Tire Recommendations
Looking for some 17" tires that will work well here in Colorado. Don't really want to go for a Winter but instead a good AT that handles snow and Ice without being too loud etc
Let me know your recommendations Thanks |
I LOVED the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I had no issues in the light snow I encountered. They were super quiet much better than the highway Goodyears on the Titan.
|
IQ how did they handle in ICE ?
|
I have no experience with them in ICE that I know of. Sorry! Did I mention that the on road ride was also better than the highway-rated Goodyears.

You'll need a studded winter tire or one of the Michelin X-Ice (alpin, alpin ICE also) to be good on ice...
Many states require studded tires to be removed from the vehicle after the winter season, in MT its Oct. 1 to April 30. |
Studs are hardcore. I have not experience driving anything with studs. My hat is off to those that do.
|
Just imagine not sliding at all... they are very nice... they are noisier but if they keep you on the road they are worth it.

The best I found on my 94 Bronco XLT was Big O tires. They were their top line studded snow tires made for 4x4. Great tires in the Colorado snow plus they were quiet and smooth riding for a snow tire. There was some noise on the highway, but not crazy noise like you hear from some snow tires.
Had 4 sets and only once had a tire that did not seem to run right, But they replaced it no problem. You don't get the mileage out of them as you would a normal street tire but the trade off in traction was worth it anyway. In Colorado you can run studded snow tires all year around as I seen it snow in July once at 10,000 Feet. For many years I ran Good year ultra grip studded snow tires on a 73 T Bird with out a problem. But last time I checked they don't make them any more. Too bad, great snow tire. |
If you go to TireRack and look at Passenger All Weather tire ratings ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ay.jsp?type=AS ), you will see that the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread got the highest ratings based on an enourmous amount of mileage.

All I can only find the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred in a 17" on discount tire. Is this the same tire or is there a difference. Does anyone know whether these come in the 265/70R-17
|
Tire Rack shows that it is the light truck version of the Assurance Triple Tread and it, too, had very high rating from purchasers. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....era+TripleTred for a description and ratings, and http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...irePageLocQty= for size specs.
and http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....era+TripleTred for price ($169) |
So I'm concluding that the Assurance Triple Tred is not available for our expys (17" anyway)
