Bilstein Shocks
 

I just ordered a set of Bilsteins for my SD. From everything I have read here they are great shock for ride quality. Last week I put on some 285/70/17 Silent Armors and the stock "Rancho branded shocks" don't seem up to the task.

I paid 67.00 per shock from eShock.com. I used them because they had them in stock. The funny thing is, Summit Racing tries to sell them for 148.00 each. I called them to see why they were so high and they just said they price match anyone. Something is wrong with that.

Any way, I can't wait to try them out.

For what it's worth, 2005-2007 4x4 SD's use p/n F4-BE5-C295-H0 for the front and for the rear it is F4-BE5-C296-H0. These are for stock ride height. Some places drop the F4 or H0 in the p/n so don't be confused.

I know this isn't really V10 related, but those are p/n's for the V10 trucks. haha (and it is the only forum I really post in due to the quality users)

My 99 F250 SD V10 4x4 took BE5-2818-H0 F250 FRONT and BE5-C296-H0 F250/350 REAR standard height, a couple weeks ago and I love the ride improvement.

I have the bilstein shock on a lifted SD V10 and they are a great shock. They are stiff enough to handle anything yet responsive and have a nice ride quality on the road. Summit shows the stock height shocks at 69 a piece. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...641+4294925130

Can't say enought about the Blistens. Made a pretty big difference in ride and handeling.

I bought mine from Summit and I paid about $69 for each as well.

I think I paid $250 shipped to my door from a place on ebay. Wonderful improvement over my OEM shocks.

Update - I just installed the Bilsteins tonight. I could tell a dramatic difference. They felt stiffer on the bench but they ride so much softer. They must dissipate energy more efficiently.

I would definitely say they are worth the 250.00 and hour to install them. The only snag was I had to trim the front liners with a dremel to get the allen wrench into the top of the shock. Other than the mismatch of metric and standard hardware it was an easy job.

I need to do something with my front shocks. In the winter the extra weight of a snowplow is not good on the stock shocks.

I hear everyone talk great things about these shocks, and yet, cannot for the life of me get away, from that God-awful color scheme they are in.

Any other color options?

Real Ride Improvement?
 

Do these shocks really inmprove the ride quality? I have a '05
F250, 4x4, King Ranch Crew Cab, short box; My wife hate the harshness of the ride when unloaded and only tolerates it when we are hauling the 5th wheel. I have thought about going to an F350 4x2 but don't know if this would be an improvement. Shocks would be alot cheaper!!

The shocks will make a big difference, especially if you have the originals still on. Trust me. Also, make sure your tires are balanced by a shop that has a road force balancer. That can make a big difference too.

I find that ride quality hase more to do with what spring weights you have more than what shocks you have. I Run the Bilsteins. They are great. They made a improvement in ride quality to a point. I have the old X code leaf springs up front. The Bilsteins just took the edge off the harshness.

Where the the Bilsteins shine is in the handling department. The truck is much more stable in turns. A bunch less roll in the turns.

I thought that the spring weight has more impact than a shock would. I have the 9600# GVWR 4x4 with the stabalizer package. I think that the spring weights in the front are higher with this package. Right now when unloded we bounce alot over pot holes and pavement breaks; I think new shocks would help to control the rebound from these conditions and maybe smooth the ride a bit. Other than the ride I love the truck; the V10/4.10 combination is awesome as a to tow vehicle. I am pulling about 12,500 total trailer weight with no problems at all.
