1971 360 wiring
I am putting a rebuilt 360 in my truck. I remember reading somewhere here that there is the possibility of too hot a condencer/or coil or something on these motors. The end result was a smoked ingnition wire in the wiring harness. Any thoughts are always appreciated.

Ford used a resistor wire instead of a balast resistor on some trucks. I'm not sure what years, but you can check by testing the volts to the coil.
A better idea is to scrap the whole thing and get the Pertronix upgrade. I got the matching coil to eliminate any problems and have no balast resistor, then just follow the simple instructions. Dump the points (or keep them as a backup) and get better performance with the $60 Pertronix kit. |
