Where to shoot in the desert?

We're looking to go shooting in the desert, but not sure where to go. I know we have to be away from city limits, and on public land. We're on the west side of Peoria.

Know anywhere to go? Do you have to drive a truck to get there?

We actually ventured off Highway 60, going west. It was a really nice drive. Indian reservations are primarily on the East side, we're on the West. I love their culture anyways.

We respect the land we tread on. Clean up after ourselves, leaving no real signs we were there. We've been teaching our son how to handle guns, and safety, and picking up the brass.

I used to head up to 4 peaks all the time. There's a couple trails that dive left/right off the main trail about a half mile or so in. We'd set up targets on an opposing mountain and shoot away. Just be sure to clean up afterwards, you'll see evidence that not everyone does... I haven't been there in a few years (am in PA now) so I'm not sure of the laws regarding that.

Oh yeah, make sure, I mean 200% CERTAIN that where you're shooting is in line with the main trails, there's alot of people out there on the weekends.

There's also a spot down towards the south east valley. I can't remember exactly where it was but you could take 60 east where it curves south towards Globe and hit some turn offs there, believe there's some places back in there to go. Man, I can't remember for the life of me where it was, out by Florence out there somewhere... Wish I had more details, sorry.

i know a GREAT place to go shooting. it's just north of the Mexico. and at night if you put on your night vision goggles you can see moving targets.
