Vista Ultimate

Can anyone tell me what experience they have had with this new software...Had XP Pro and needed to have access to the disks for correctons to some connectivity issues, but they are in Cali, so I went and upgraded.

Thus far I am impressed with the OS, but still checking it out.

I dunno- I was going to upgrade to Vista, but then I figured I'd wait and upgrade the computer first, now I went and threw in a gig of memory and it perked mine up enough it'll probably be another year or two before I replace this thing.
At least that'll give them the time to work out some bugs........

After having just lost my hard-drive and before I replaced it I spoke with the comp man that works on mine he said unless you had a new comp. with at least 2000 megs of memory or a brand new new comp stay with XP-pro (which I did) because Vista takes a lot of memory and a big processor not to mention that being as it's so new there are still a lot bugs to be worked out like there was when XP came out several years ago. We looked at his comp at home and he still runs XP-pro and has no plans to change to Vista.

Vista ultimate is an excellent OS. However, keep in mind the resource demand is about double that of a properly equipped XP sp2 system.

An Idle XP pro system will peg 220-280mb of ram just sitting there. This is with no applications running.

An idle Vista system will peg almost double that. The "minimum" requirements for the system is 1024 mb or RAM. Ideally, you'd like to run 2048mb.

I have a system with 2 gigs of ram and Vista works great. If you have an older CPU and/or minimal ram (1 gig or less) I would stay away from the OS. Upgrade to 2 gigs and you will be happy.

Regards,
Mike

I am still checking it out, but I do love the OS. I was worried about having an older designed system....2.4GHZ processor 512 Ram and 40 Gig HD. However the OS min requirement is 512 ram, 800 megs processor and 20 gigs (HD) I think...Mem Turbo helped out with XP and does a great job managing the idle ram. (BTW, I am running the 32 bit version.)

Thus far I have not noticed any declined speed in operation over XP Pro. However I do forsee potential problems with Aero and my current graphics card.

Your processor is fine. 75% or more of your ram is pegged just breathing in Vista though. Bump your RAM up to 2 gigs and you will be much happier. Especially in video demand programs or heavy resource apps.

Check out www.newegg.com. I doubt 2 gigs would cost more than $100 shipped. Depends on how many RAM slots you have on your board.

Good Luck,
Mike

I won't get into too much detail, but i will be the one that says vista is a crappy os.

I think xp is better.

Ok it looks like i wont go into any details at all, it just bites the big one. Heh
