Looking for Camelina seed
Would anyone on the forum who buys camelina seed in bulk be willing to sell me about 1/2 LB. of seed to experiment with before I commit to buying it in bulk? I am interested in camelina as an oil crop for homebrew biodiesel. I can't find it locally in small quantities. Naturally, I'll pay for postage and the seed. You can PM me if you think you might be able to help me out. Have a great day and thanks for your assist on this. :-X25

Don
I remember you planted some acerage in Camelina as an experiment. I also remember you did not get as good a yield as you would get with Canola. I do not remember if you addressed the cost per acre of raising the Camelina vs the cost of raising Canola. Do you have thos numbers available? |
Yes. The cost of growing was almost the same between both crops. The yeald with Camelina was half of what we got with Canola. Canola producton was 4,500 lbs/acr. Camelina was 2,100 lb/ac. My neighbor tried a test plot also, and got the same results.

I don't know what all you did to the two crops, insecticide, fertilizer, etc, but it sure sounds like canola is a better crop for you.
I wonder if Camelina might not come out on top under different climatic conditions, it would be interesting to find out. |
The inputs were all the same. Several farms tried it here and all had about the same yeald.
