Iowa Junkyards

Hey,

I just went to the Wrench and Go on the edge of Des Moines looking for a Toyota power steering box and pump only to not be able to find the one I need, they had the model before and after. I am looking for a 79-84 system to adapt and put in my 55 Truck because Driving around Ames is kinda tough cause my original Box is on its last legs and I have 31 X 10.5 tires on so that doesn't help either.

I was wondering do any of you guys know of any junkyards say with in 75 miles of Ames (or in NE corner of the state) that would possibly have this? I would prefer a pull your own parts place to save some cash.

Try A-1 over here to Homestead, 1-800-435-3002. Talk to Tim if you can,(mornings) but if you talk to Dave, tell him Roger sent ya... They specialize in imports. MANY trucks on the lot, should be some older ones. If I think about it, I'll take a look when I'm there in the afternoon... Tim, the owner/manager, knows me well... been friends for 20 years or so...

talk about a short list... waaaay more yards than that. Doug's 4 wheelers down to Pella, although I don't know how much they do imports.

I didnt say it was perfect or had every yard in iowa. It usually show quite a few yards in the DM area.

You would think there would be more on it, but hardly any on it in comparison to what I know are around.
Another thing to check is car-part.com, many local yards list their parts on it. Again, not all, but many.

I checked on that steering box, about $50, and they have a few.

scottjo 08-26-2007 09:15 AM

Well I had already checked the IAR site and they wanted big bucks for one on there. I also heard of a few around here from a guy last night but I have to wait untill tomm.

Fellro- that sounds like a good deal do they have the pump and 2 hoses too? I think I will need the whole set-up. Also do you get to pull your own parts there? If I can't find anything here early this week I may leave from class on Friday and go for a cruise in my 67 mustang over there to get a setup. I'll send ya a PM.

fellro86 08-26-2007 09:18 AM

Actually, they have gone to primarily pull your own parts. They are there Saturdays as well until 3. I'm sure they have the pump, but I would probably splice hoses to use whatever pump I want, and then the Toyo box. But if you want to use the Toy parts, I'm sure they'll have such.

scottjo 08-26-2007 09:28 AM

Well I don't have any pump on the truck yet and I think that I want a pump that was designed for the box and I don't want to blow anything out by running too much pressure to the box. Oh yeah whats thier address too?

fellro86 08-26-2007 09:38 AM

pm sent back... For anyone else that want it... 3387 Hwy 6 trail, Homestead Ia 52236.
For the most part, the pumps run about the same pressures, and the boxes are pretty stout. I made the pressure hose for the 92 Cummins, which runs a Delco pump, to work on the 92 F350, no issues there. You'll have to make up mounts and all that, as well as figure out a belt for it. Should be v-belt yet back then.

Fellro- sent you a PM about Sat.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...4&iwloc=A&om=1

is this the place? or am I thinking differently and it is closer to town on Hwy 6?

That's weird, because it is not there.. It is closer to Homestead than that, and right on HWY 6, not upper 6... (old 6)

scottjo...you got the blue Effie running around Ames up here..i've seen it a couple times..you live out by Freddie?

fellro86 09-26-2007 11:16 PM

I hadn't heard, but we pulled the steering boxes and pump, so he has the supplies, it was just a case of time...
