1965 F100

I apologize if this has been asked before.

Recently purchased a '65 F100 SWB as a restoration project.

Truck has a Big Block in it and is an original 352 Truck, but based on a few things, I do not think this is the original engine. I've looked in several places for a tag or a stamp to ID the engine and can not find one. Any suggestions on where to look?

Thanks
YD

Front of engine will say 352 for the correct era. Dose not necessarly mean it is,

Pull a spark plug on number one and take it through one revolution. 352 stroke is approx 3.50"

The block shoud have a casting number C5ME on the side of the block. Intake should have casting mark C5AE.

Thanks. The intake is marked C6AE and then under it is 9425 F

Found C6ME on the block.

I'll try to find a dowel rod and measure the stroke.

The C6 in the castings tell you c=60's + 6 = 1966

YD, There is no way to tell for sure if it is the original engine. The engine could have been swapped out several times in 40 years. If it is anything besides a 352 it did not come in a 65 truck. The 352 was the only V8 offered that year.

If its the original engine, there is a chance the original engine tag is still bolted to it...they are typically attached around the coil mounting brkt...one bolt..tag is a couple inches long and prolly covered in muck... I looked and looked for mine forever...I found it in a weird way...mine had been bent into a wire retainer for my oil pressure gauge wire at the dipstick tube retainer bolt...Now if I can just find me an original 2 bbl carb with the tag for my 65 Id be on cloud 9. If you plan on swapping it out or changing carbs, let me know...

I almost forgot...the tag has the engine size month and yr built and revision level of the engine build on it...top line is size and build date...

It's not a 1965 engine if it has a 1966 block casting number (C6ME).

C6AE intake manifold casting number. The question is...is it for a 4 barrel carb?

C6AZ-9424-N .. 4V Intake Manifold 1966/67 390/428

C6AZ-9424-D .. 2V Intake Manifold 1966/67 390

A C6AE intake manifold casting number is from a car. The engine could be anything under that manifold. It could be a 352, 390, or 428.

Not to question Bill, but it's quite possible to have a late 65 that has a 66 engine in it. I had a numbers matching 68 Chevelle that had a 67 engine code that was the 327/275hp version (an engine that supposedly wasn't available in 68). Also had 67 emblems. Definitely a 68 because it's a completely different body.

I do have to agree that the engine could be anything under that manifold.

A C6ME block casting would have been cast after 1/1/66. C6 = 1966. The production of 1965 models ended in late July 1965. So pray tell, how could any 1965 Ford have come new from the factory with a C6ME block? In two words: Im Possible.

I use those two words occasionally. My point was that model years and originally installed equipment aren't always going to "match up". I'm not saying that you're wrong, in fact I'm sure that you are right. I'm just pointing out that sometimes the right engine (or whatever) is "technically" wrong. That's all.
