earliest ford super or crew cab
 

what is the earliest model ford truck that had a super cab or crew cab? i just bought a fifth wheel camper and thought it would be cool to pull it with a classic truck 3/4 ton or 1 ton would be nice. maybe a diesal swap if possible.

In LMC they listed 1974 as the first year, as a factory option but I dunno. I saw a 1968 sell at auction with 4 doors and just a few weeks ago Fom posted a picture of a 1952 with a factory looking supercrew.

If you want I know of a rusty 1979ish super crew that would be sold if a offer came along.

The first Supercab was 1974 and the first Ford built Crewcabs was 65 or 66 (can't remember). There were many conversions done by aftermarket companies for earlier years.

thanks for the info i was hoping for something older in the 30s or 40s. illsee if i can find the post from fom. also anyone know if dodge made a ranchero or camino style car,conversatin came up around the campfire last wknd nobody had an answer.

Just one thing to consider is that a 30's or 40's truck wouldn't be able to handle a trailer without major modifications not to mention the size. A 30's to 41 truck is like the size of a Ranger. It wasn't until 42 that they used a parallel leaf springs.

For it to be even possible you would have to have a custom built chassis made to fit the truck perfect.

I've only seen one truck that has fit your description. It would be a late 30's early 40's white pickup around Regina. I think it's sitting on a later frame but since the frame is wider they pretty much cut the truck in half and added like 1 foot in width. They did make it a supercab but IMO the thing looks terrible.

I think my truck would just be adequate to use a 5th wheel. I only plan on having a class IV receiver to maybe pull a car trailer.

thanks again dueller, i was already considerin a frame swap. maybe a new meets old. what are the chances of the front of a slick bolting up to that 79 snow was talking about?

what about an old tow truck. the frame etc should be strong enough to pull the camper. its a light weight for pulling behind 1/2 tons

Yuppers 1974 was when the good ol supercab came into action earlier for the crews!

Bentt that would be cool making an old screw like that. Talk about really unique looking!

hey snow cant seem to find fom post with the 52. can you help. there used to be a 74 back home that was screw 4x4 if i remember right. its one of dads old curling buddies. ill have to see if he still has it next time i go to the farm

I don't know if this is going to come out as a double post, but I've come across pics of a 1939 Ford COE, Crew Cab, great looking truck! I was under the impression that Ford offered a Crew Cab since those years?!
