Machine Shop

A good shop anywhere in the Puget Sound South area would be fine. Looking to rebuild an engine with the help of a competent maching shop. I want to do the assembly myself.

Thanks

I suggest heading to Bowen Scarff in Kent or Auburn and ask who they use...

For those that are in the Auburn area.

This shop does a good job and they are easy to work with and helpful to the newbie. This engine did however end up costing me a lot more than I anticipated. I went for a mild performance build. Other than having the fun of doing the engine yourself and knowing exactly what you have, it would be just as cost effective to buy a performance engine from a reputable engine builder.

The amount of machining required to rework the heads and get the valve train geometry right, forged pistons, roller rockers all drove the cost up considerable. Based on the backlog of work at this shop, they did not turn the product around fast. I get the feeling that they support several auto shops and that the regular customer work gets priority, which is understandable.

I'm nearing assembly completion at this time.

go to napa in auburn. doug has been doing this forever, he's awsome. he did my old datsun 260z engine for me. it cost about $1200, bored .30 over , cam regrind and he had to demagnatize my rods. i brought my 351m heads to d.g. machine and they broke one of the rocker arm seat ears off. not too good

Doug, (NAPA) is the guy to go to here in Auburn. My neighbor rebuilds engines, he goes to the guys at Carquest and NAPA. He also goes to South End Auto Wrecking for some of those easy to find parts.
