Rear Excursion Differential
 

Ok Could not find this in a search,, but does anyone know what type of diff is in the rear of a 4WD 7.3 2000 Excursion. Is it the Dana 80? Thanks Jim

Should be a 10.5" sterling.

I concur with ReAx on that. I don't believe they used anything different. Why are you asking?

I am planning to service (oil) my diff and want to be sure the oil meets the spec and limit slip requirments. When I look at my manual it gives 3 differentials and I found labeled Sterling. So it becomes confusing when you want to insure you have the right spec oil/lubes. JIm

I just put this 2008 diff cover on my 2005... same should fit your X. As far as what type of rear diff fluid I used ROYAL PURPLE 75W-140... RP has the friction modifiers needed for a "limited slip" included in it's formula. As long as you're changing the fluid why not do a rear cover swap too!!

10.25 or 10.5 it seems to be a guessing game as to which you may have. Pretty much the same thing other then the rig gear is a bit bigger i hear. Still dont get how this is possible, seems wrong.

There was a year split, the 99+ superduty/excursion should be either the 10.25 or 10.5. For diff cover's the pattern is the same. I think the gears were the same, I thought that motive used the same PNs for both diffs.

I used a mag hy-tech diff cover and Royal Purple when I had my gears done a couple weeks ago. No noise from the LS, and I haven't used any additives yet.

What 2008 Part Did You Use??

prob with my 2000 Ex with the rust at the bottom of the diff cover and I've
seen a '08 part referred to a couple of times but which part do I order from
Ed the parts guy? Do I look for a 2008 F250 diff cover or something else??

you will need to go to hardware store and get longer bolts also, Ford wants way to much for theirs.

Man...this IS a REALLY old thread! LOL

When I did my cover I went with stainless steel hardware I bought 12 longer bolts with washers and lock washers (5/16-18 x 1.25)for maybe $1.00 each from my local hardware store...I can't remember the actual price for the hardware but it wasn't all that much when you compare to what Ford wanted for non stainless!!!

They can be, it doesn't really matter. The extra length is needed because the factory cover is just thin sheetmetal and the '08 aluminum cover has thicker pads at the mounting flange, so the section of bolt just under the head (threaded or not) is inside the new cover holes in the thick section.
I can't remember what style my stainless socket head cap screws were.

I know this thread has been dead for awhile, but I am looking to install the 08 Rear Differential cover on my 00 Excrusion 4x4. I just wanted to know how long of bolts do i need to pick up?
