As for the Ranger... I would hardly say its dead. Look closely at that 4-Trac concept from Thailand ;)

Oh cool!! They put a bed on the Edge  (which was originally a Ranger trim level BTW)

Ford is waaaay over doing that front end IMHO.

UUUUUUUUUUGLY!!!!!!!!!
If ford continiue like this, very soon will be out of business

People today want Super and Crew Cabs. Regular Cabs just aren't in that much demand anymore. How many 2004/07 F150 Regular Cabs have y'all seen on the road? I've seen exactly two, and I live in Trafficville - Los Angeles County.

BigF350 05-14-2007 04:55 AM

What I posted up... WON'T be the Ranger...
I just thought it looked cool.

This is what it will bear a resemblance too.

It's actually new Flex, not Edge.

I see a lot of regular cabs out here in the country where they are used as trucks rather than commuter vehicles and grocery getters. Farmers, contractors and businesses buy them because they are much cheaper to buy and they want the 8' bed so they can carry their loads.

I looked long and hard to find a nicely equipped standard cab short bed XLT with the 5.4 because it was what I wanted. I figure the Supercabs and Crewcabs will be like the 4 door cars have always been. The 4 door cars have always been far more popular than the 2 doors or convertibles when new. However, when it comes to collectible cars down the road, the 4 doors have very little value while the 2 doors and convertibles that are well equipped and have the large engines become very valuable. The old trucks that are valuable are the standard cab short bed (stepside more so) models that are nicely equipped. Part of the reason is because they are rare because of the little demand when new.

I thought we were "talking" about the Ranger? :-D

Back on topic, the concept that seems to make the most sense to me is the one based on the Escape. But they won't do that unless they can put a Fusion/Edge/Taurus X grille on it... :-missingt

it looks like they tapped into the scion market, is what it looks like.

actually if they offered the USAconsumers what they sell them in europe and s. america, with moderate designs over the years the ranger will be just fine.

but the scion look, and the escape look, both need help.

claw302 05-14-2007 02:48 PM

ford could use the 2008 escape cab for a new ranger. front end would have to be longer to fit a 4.0L engine. with some custom mounts the escape cab would bolt on a explorer chassis. put leaf springs in the rear. use a cut down version of a 4door escape for a crew cab ranger. offer a hybrid, gas, and diesel. i bet that would take off. with parts sharing between the current explorer and escape, ford could keep the cost down and build a affordable modern looking ranger with tons of options and features. of course ford does have a problem thinking outside of the box for some reason.

Ford EDGE ^^^^^

I see this front end on a lot of Ford's concept vehicles....including the '09 F-150.....I'm not a huge fan of the shaving utensil grill.

I do realize to each his/her own.....but Ford's styling is killin' me lately!!

DOHCmarauder 05-14-2007 05:39 PM

PS....

Styling wise, I do think Ford got it right with the CURRENT F-150 and most Super Duties BEFORE '08.

Again, 100% subjective.
