Newbie And A F100 Unibody

So my original plan was to pick up a 68-71 F100 shortbed until I came across this bad boy. It's a pretty much stock 61 Unibody with the originall 223 and 3 speed column shift. The motor ran like crap when I picked it up, but it ran. It has since bought the farm after a trip from Livermore to Sacramento. I had to trailer down to So-Cal where it ran just long enough to go to and from the spring shop for an attitude adjustment. I have also just picked up a 460/c6 combo for it that should be going in very soon. After that I'll start the body work and get it looking and driving better. The wheels will work for now once I get rid of the god forsaken white walls. I have a set of 69 GT500 Magnesium Centered Magnum 500's for it so they'll probably go on once the motor and trans go in. Hopefully you all can check out the picks.

Let me know what you guys think.

Welcome to FTE

Looks very nice. Those rust free front fenders are gonna make a few ppl jealous here. Feel free to ask quesions, we are here to help.

Magnum 500's won't fit your truck, as they are a 4.50 bolt circle. Your Uni has a 5.50 bolt circle.

Wheels on the truck are 5x4.5's. I already took care of that.

Nice truck. I'm looking real hard at a 62 Unibody. Rust free like yours, but a little more dinged up on the edges. The 460 C6 is what I would do also. Even though this one has a good running 302 AOD in it now.

How did you lower yours in the front?

PERTANO 04-30-2007 12:11 AM

we reversed the eyes on the leafs and took a little arch out of them.

Wow man nice looking truck indeed i like it very sweet especially with that blue

So yesterday I changed out the right fender and installed the spare grille I got with the truck. Then today I got lucky and found a set of the stainless headlight rings so it completed the look. All chrome front end now!!! I then proceed to get a little carried away with the flat black. It won't stay this way for very long, but it was an experiment that got a little out of hand.

Pertano Your truck looks great, your probably killing the guys on dialup with the pics in post though, I think the stock round mirrors would finish it off nicely.

PERTANO 05-01-2007 03:07 PM

do you have pictures of the stock mirrors? I was going to put the 4 inch peep mirrors on it when the next Pomona swap meet rolls around. I'm not sure what else would look good. Kind of new to the truck scene.

The stock mirrors can be seen in my profile or in any of the vendor site posted on the left side of the webpage. They'll run you less then $100, not sure about shipping though. One question on the spring flip, did you have to drill a new locator hole for the axle pin to sit in? I have a 460/C6 combo and my springs are almost completely flat as it is now. You might have to add some of the arch back in when you install yours.

Your truck looks really coool. If you want to see what round mirrors and flat black paint looks like check out my gallery my 64 also has a 66 grill on it now a little more chrome on the front with flat black looks good.

PERTANO 05-02-2007 08:55 PM

GANGSTAKR- I saw you truck at Knotts. Good looking truck.
I'm not going with the flat black look on this one. I painted it that way because the fender I picked up for it was green and looked like crap. I'm hoping to start working out the body later next week to get it the final color. I ended up get a little over zealous with the flat black and had to stop myself. I regret doing it now. But soon it will all change again.

The stock round mirrors that fit into the slots in the door are the same for all 1953/66 Ford trucks. The back of the mirror head changed slightly in 1961.

Very nice find guy. I have a 61 myself and my problem is rusted out cab supports. I feel sure you've been all under the truck but I'd make sure those are solid before dropping a big block in. You might also consider up-grading your braking system before the big-block, you'd be surprised at the number of guys that think that little fruit jar - four drum setup is going to stop a 460! Good luck with the project - looks cool so far!
