Ford Flex falls flat at car show...bold

I'm not sure whether I like that Ford Flex or not. The first thing that came to my mind was the word "odd." As in, that looks odd. The second thing that came to my mind was to wonder how many clowns could fit in it.
I'm thinking that maybe it could work if it gets good mileage and gas prices go up. People might just be looking for something like that to replace inefficient SUV's. But then, they could go buy an Escape, which IMO looks better than the Flex. Just my opinions. |
Whoever designed the flex needs to be fired, and forfit every penny ford gave them to do it... It looks like crap, it's not every efficient, and well, sucks.
Get a cheap, durable, commuter car back into the lineup. Bring BACK THE ESCORT!!! stickshift, cloth seats, power nothing, heat only, no power stearing... Alacart options for auto, nice seats, sunroof, spoiler, ac, p/s, and a nice sound system... Base should be no more then 10k... No more then 20k fully loaded... w/e ~Nate |
It is too big and too late. The PT Cruiser was original, as was the Scion xB. The HHR was GM's me-too copy, but it is selling ok now. Ford is way behind and this is not a way to catch up. Since the 2008 Focus will not be available in a hatch or wagon, Ford has missed the boat again.

Don't see how this fits in the catagory of any of those cars mentioned.
This is kinda like a throwback station wagon. The PT wasn't meant ot be that and only seats 5, the HHR is just a clone of that and the xB is an econocar not even marketed to the same genre. It is a bit bland but it is a nice design. |

yeah this is one ugly vehicle and ford shot themselves in the foot by releasing this thing.
on yahoo i saw an add for the new 08 escape......that they did right, it looks good and will sell i gaurantee it.......for this flex i dont want to even no the amount put into it, plus the amount they will lose not selling it.... |
I'm not sure if I like it or not. I will have to wait till I can see it in person. I am a fan of bricks and do like the honda element and scion xb so we will see. One thing that is driving me nuts is the front end grill but the good news is it is not a minivan!

The pic in the article isn't the best, I still like it though. I think it has a much more timeless quality than the HHR or PT Cruiser. Those looked new for a year and got old real fast. I think the Flex will stay looking better for longer.
I can see it needing to grow on people, but ford has made way uglier cars IMO (the bubble Taurus) and sold them like mad. If it actually drives nice, with a decent suspension, it should do well I would think. It's got pretty decent power, it just needs to be a little more fun to drive, as far as road feel and cornering, compared to what they've been putting on the road as of late. At least a sport suspension option. |
Geez...If this is a sign of what FORD is doing to make a comback, they are definately in trouble. OK....Best selling vehicle in America was the F150s. For one thing, Ford should keep that idea and expand on that. Concentrate on getting that truck in top notch to sell such as fuel economy while keeping the affordable price. It's not about building a high doller exotic truck that most people can't afford, it's about volume and alot of it. How many times has the topic "fuel economy and prices" has come up. Not only Ford, but the entire automotive industry needs to get that together, but not get away from affordable prices. And stay away from stupid ideas like the flex. If something has sold in the past with great numbers, improve that product. To me, it seems like a no-brainer. To improve the escape is a good idea, but it must be affordable. Ford needs to come up with products that have great fuel economy to tap into that "better gas MPG" crowd to sell vehicles, improve the F150 for better economy, make a great minivan, keep selling and improving the Crown Vics or maybe build a new LTD for a full size car (which could be used for police interceptors). Improve on the mustang, build a couple of exotic vehicles for that "elite class" and get some ideas to produce a retro vehicle(s) that are affordable.
And also, maybe or maybe not, Ford should get involved in attempting to produce or buddy up with a company to produce vintage parts for popular vehicles that are now obsolete to tap into the restoration market. People are going to continue to buy aftermarket cheap parts from companies for cheap fixes, but to have the options of getting OEM parts for some more money (I don't mean outragous prices) but a reasonable price could give Ford a profit from parts. |

Did the Morris shooting brakes make it down under? I always found them rather interesting, with their steel bodies with the quarter panels fitted with those wood bits.

Yeah, they did, I see them at a few mini meets - but they aren't all that common. (I think all of them are imports though)
