Oil and Filters
 

Good oil article, and this stainless, finer-mesh and cleanable oil filter looks pretty good. But $200 is too big an *ouch* durn it.

It seems like snake oil to me. I guess everyone has their own opinion on things but I feel that a paper filter is just fine unless you have a super hot rod. I run good oil and change it at 5k. It seems to me like a bit of hype. I am a fan of the K&N style air filters though. I just do not see the added potential benefit from changing filtering medias.

I agree! As long as you are changing your filters regularly, then the only thing that really matters is the oil! I run Shell Rotella T fully Synthetic 5W-40 and a standard Motorcraft paper filter.



I started using synthetic when I lived in Alaska and needed SOMETHING to have the ability to start at 45 below ~ or colder. Dino oil gets too “sticky” at those temps and just won’t let the crank go ‘round…

i have 10w-30 in my truck .... ermmmm napa oil yes, and just a "standard" oil filter, a lot of people say 10w is too thick for the wniter, but I went out and started my truck up in 0 degree weather and it started up better than my parents truck which was "winterized" lol

basically I run 10w-30 just napa oil right now and use a standard oil filter

ive heard people say in the winter its bad to run 10w-30 becasue it is too thick, but I run it even in 0 degree weather
and my truck starts up faster than my parents which was "winterized" so 5w whatever

has anyone got their oil changed and been ripped off of an oil filter? my brotehr took his truck in (2002 ranger edge), for oil and oil filter change and other crap, well he didnt think he got a new oil filter last time, so this time he marked it, when he got the truck he look under and the oil filter looked dirty and not new, but he couldnt see the mark, so he made me crawl under and look, the guy turned the oil filter so you couldnt see the mark, jiffy lube i believei n socal

idk how they are in business, being they tell people their radiators are cracked when it isnt and replacing to unsuspecting people...soo many scandals

I run Castrol 10w40 in my Subaru (when it's running), and 15w40 diesel-rated oil in everything else. Better ring lube, stronger film strength, better acid resistance. On my Fords, I use Motorcraft filters, but usually Wix or Napa on everything else. No oil-related issues so far, and the last engine I had to tear into was nice and clean.

Interesting article, but like you said $200 is a big ouch. I've been using Amsoil's DEO Premium Diesel 5W-40 oil in mine.
