477-534 swap?

Hi. i have a 76 f 600 crew cab ramp truck with a 4 speed and straight speed rear. Its has a worn out 370 2v. I located a 477 or 534 engine in a 72-74 dump truck with a 5 speed trans and a 2 speed rear. i plan on using the entire drive line but unsure of the engine. Are these engines any good. are ther better alts to these. thanks

I think you can upgrade to the 429, same family as the 370. That would be your best bet, unless you want to upgrade to a diesel, in which case the Cummins 5.9 is probably the most available usable engine for your application.

These old engines are not what you'd think for power, and are very thirsty.

85E is right a 429 is a much better choice, that was the replacement for
the old SD engines. The difference between a 370 and a 429 is a lot. A
460 can be swapped for a 370 but it takes more work, 429 is a bolt in.

I'd use the 429 also. You'll get a lot better performance than with the SD engines, and it's a bolt in,and parts are available.
