Anyone change their own oil yet?

Well before my EL 4x4 came in a bought a case of oil filters at the dealer.I got them for $4.45 each discounted from the list of $8.69. I thought I was getting a good deal until I saw them at WalMart for around $3.60. Oh well.

But 2 things to note. I really like how Ford made the miny catch pan for the oil filter. No mess on the frame or suspension.

But what I noticed is the oil filter that came on the engine is different than the FL820S. The service manager told me he was going to look into it. I think I'll bring him the original filter tomorrow. Does anyone know why there is a difference?

I'm just about to change the oil on our 07 expy and was wondering the same thing. I'll be using the FL820S, but this is still interesting...

Could it be that the first oil filter is different because they figured while the engine is being broken in, it will put out a lot more metal debries? Maybe the first oil filter has some serious filtering capability that the subsequent ones do not need... Just my opinion =)

That's what I was thinking and asked the SM that same question and he didn't think so at the moment. Didn't get the chance to go to the dealer today.

I've heard the original filter is a real PIA to get off. Has anyone tackled one yet?
