5-lug 16 inch wheels?
 

How rare are 5-lug 16 inch truck wheels, and are they compatable with modern radials?

Are they split rims? If so you wont find any tire dealer that will mount tires on them. They also require the use of inner tubes since the rim is split.

No, I don't have a set, I just recall that I THINK they exist, and was wondering if they're compatable with radials. The ones I'm thinking of are NOT split rims, not the 5-lug, anyway.

I have been running LT235/85R16's on a '71 1/2 ton 4x4 for years - no problem. 5 lug, tubless, non split rims. It came originally with 650 16's. I used to run 700 untill they got hard to find.
BTW I have tube type RADIALS on SPLIT rims on my 600, sold and mounted by a truck tire center. So there.

I have a set also that came to my place on a 73 Ford half-ton 4x4. I use them for studded snow tires on my 48 F1 with 215-85R-16 tires. Normal rims, tubeless radials, 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern and they work just fine. So they're out there.

Jeep also used a similar rim - I have 4 - one bent in an accident, but the hub opening has an lip rolled inward so they need 1/4" spacers between the rim and the drum when used on Ford hubs.

The jeep wheels will work fine without spacers. The lip is for strenth due to the jeep wheel center hole being larger and closer to the lugnut holes. I have been running jeep wheels on my 77 f150 for the last 100,000 miles with no spacers. The jeep drum is flat just like the Ford and jeeps don't use spacers. The down side is the 16 inch jeep wheels have no hubcap bumps inn or out style. Thanks, Lyman.

My 1966 F100 parts Truck came with 16s on it, With 235/75-16 Big O raidals I have a set of 5 with hubcaps, The spare tire is Goodyear Workhorse 700. by 16 looks new They are not split rims.

I had a set and was going to use them on my 66 f100 4x4 but chose not to because I could not find a good tire that was recommended to mount on a 5" wide rim. Current radials will mount on them but the manufactureers have a minimum recommended width. I checked with stockton wheel about resizing them and it was cheeper to buy the set new from them.

Just because something fits does not mean it's correct.
