Sad Thoughts

I should be happy: I have a line on a '76 short bed 4X4, reasonably clean, no engine, scrapyard price.

I have to part with the '74 short bed 4X4. My hobby for the past 16 years has been escaping the junkyards with this truck. I have also collected numerous parts to modify the '74: Two speed transfer case, power steering, stepside bed.

I took my wife on our first official "date" in this beater. The first time I saw the twins I was driving it past their house. I fought to buy it, keep it, and repair it. My Blue Heeler took his last ride in it, as did her Chow mix; those dogs loved to wheel.

Now I have to look at the rust in the cab mounts, floor pans, and cowl. The logical thing is to buy the better roller and junk this one. Still don't like doing it. If anyone is interested in a pre-cat, pre-unleaded short bed truck with a clear title and a lot of problems let me know: Hypoids.haus at yahoo dot com

I just hate to see my old friend go.

Its always hard to get rid of them....I need another vehicle like i need a hole in the head, im broke as can be, but i still just have to know what youre lookin to get for the truck??

Hypoid 01-17-2007 02:03 AM

I dunno...maybe a couple hundred. Depends on how many extra parts fall in the back, how many i need to keep. The closest thing I have to a running engine is the 360 in the old truck. The new truck has a 460 transplanted in; VIN says 360 from the factory. I don't even know what I need to take other than the bell housing.

So many variables, so little time...

Getting rid of a truck is always a sad time, especially when you've got so many great memories with it.

Hypoid, If it makes you keep it, I have a decent cab/fenders/doors/ from a 78' here in colorado, and you can have it to keep your old friend on the road!

That is enticing...I'm sorta speechless at the moment...thanks!

Hmmm, an engine swap sounds easier at this point. The Mrs does not share my sentiment for the truck. She conceeded to the replacement, kicked a fuss at the thought of two broken down trucks in the drive. More parts stacked up would probably push her over the edge. 8~O

BTW, nice toys in your sig!

AWWW DOGGONNNIT! I've been thinking about this all day now. Would it be possible for me to look it over, size up what's involved With a cab swap?

Any scenario I consider, I'm fixing an engine. That's about the only constant.

bigperm2 01-26-2007 10:39 AM

PM/email sent!

Hypoid 01-27-2007 12:09 AM

Hmmm, nothing here; and I sent an email to you last night through FTE. I have wondered about the FTE system for some time, oh well.
