Gas Mileage of the New 2007 Expeditions

Please post what kind of gas mileage you are getting, and if it's 2WD or 4WD and STD vs EL models.

Not Good. Just got a EL 4x4 and got about 14mpg on the highway on the way home and trending about 10 around town. I've only put 500 miles on it, so not a good indicator yet, but definitely not a positive surprise.

KrAzYKARL 12-09-2006 12:13 AM

yea let that thing break in and u should be getting better than what i get with my 04 expy 4x4, which is 17 mpg freeway.

nckracer 12-09-2006 12:16 AM

I have an '07 EB EL with 4X4. I have 1850 miles on it so far. Just got back from a 1200 mile trip (all highway miles) and averaged 18.6 on the highway. My in town trips are running 15.2 mpg. All miles driven so far have been in 2WD mode.

I had an '03 and an '05 Expedition before this one, neither of those would come close to my '07 EL in mpgs. With all haveing the same engine, I'm crediting the increased milage to the 6 speed transmission and maybe a little more sensible driving habits.

I have an '07 Eddie Bauer, EL, 2wd.

Gas mileage really is reflected in driving habits. I only mash the pedal when I need it. (Great engine sound, btw.) But I am averaging 16.5 mpg in mixed driving, and on a 180 mile trip I averaged 19.1 on the highway. I live in SoCal, so that includes driving through hills. When I drive on the highway, I set the cruise control at 70 mph and don't deviate from that unless traffic necessitates.

I've got an 07 EL Limited 4wd I have 5000 miles on it the best I've gotten was 20.4
@ 60 mph and about 17.9 @ 80 mph on two different trips.
City about 15.5.
Like Radcad says its all in your driving habits.
Its kind of a game with me when ever I go on a trip.

I had an 04 (before it was recently wrecked) I bought a "tornado" (around $35.00)which goes into the air intake and it increased my highway by 4mpg and my city by 3mpg. Something to think about.

ToughBuiltFord 12-14-2006 01:40 PM

Did your Tornado really help you increase 4 MPG's?

I have heard from most that these don't really work.

Yes Sir.
I first installed it this summer before I went on a 3500 mile trip. My hwy mpg averaged 20-21 and this was over the entire trip. The advertise 1-2mpg average but it seemed to help more.

All these latest numbers sound good to me. I just ordered my EL 4x4 EB tonight. I got it at invoice and they gave me $9000 for 2001 F250 CC 2WD with 177k miles. I'm hoping for the rebates to increase.

What gear ratios are you guys running?

2001F250Crew2wdPSD 12-16-2006 09:27 AM

4x2s are 3.31
4x4s are 3.73

I just put in my order for a 07 E 350 XLT Van 6.0L. 5-SPD. I want to get the best mileage I can get. So the 3.55 w/out L slip, or what I ordered a 4.10 with L Slip, and the only trans option a 5-SPD AUTO. No 6 speed for vans. I won't be towing with it at all. I'm stuck, I like the LS but I think i'm about to take a hit on mileage for it. I hope i'm wrong! Should I get it?

Welcome to the site Doug!

You might want to ask questions about your van in either the Super Duty forum or maybe even the proper diesel engine forum. This particular area is for discussion of the 2007 model Expedition SUV.

Hate to be beating on a dead horse, as this topic is discussed to death on forums all over the net, but the Tornado has been proven over and over again that it DOES NOT work.

There's absolutely not scientific or engineering reasoning why creating restrictions in your intake can increase economy or power.

Just think, if you make your garden hose into a corkscrew shape, would it suddenly flow more water? The best intake system is a smooth bore with as few bends as possible.
