If anything, what would you pick for driving everyday?

I would choose
1979 Ford F350 lifted with 2 1/2 ton axles with tractor wheels n tires and of course the 385 series 460 stroked 'n bored out

No one makes what I want for a DD- 4-cylinder, manual transmission, rear wheel drive, compact wagon. I want at least 35 mpg, hate front-drive, won't drive a slushbox, and don't honestly need a truck on a daily basis. Further, I want great seats, suspension that handles well, but isn't too coarse for long highway drives, and tons of sound insulation.

Except for not having a back seat, and needing lots more sound insulation, my Ranger with a cap actually comes pretty close...

Take this engine put it in a 1/2 ton and put a 5 speed in it.
Not much power but look at the torque:

PowerTech 3029T

Rated Power
Intermittent 79 hp (59 kW) @ 2500 rpm
Continuous 71 hp (53 kW) @ 2500 rpm
Peak Torque
Intermittent 200 lb-ft (271 N.m) @ 1800 rpm

GENERAL DATA
Bore and Stroke - in. (mm) 4.19 x 4.33 (106 x 110)
Compression Ratio 17.2:1
Aspiration Turbocharged
Length - in.(mm) 28.2 (716)
Width - in.(mm) 20.8 (528)
Height - in.(mm) 36.5 (928)

Just occured to me that alot of torque for a "little" 3 cylinder.

i think a modern motor in a slick Ford. or a 79 crewcab on an 02 diesel chassis. or even jsut a brand new loaded Ranger

Hemi 300C.

I wanna big and powerfull sedan.

john112deere 12-02-2006 01:50 PM

I got to test-drive a 300C with the Hemi a few weeks ago, at the Boston International Auto Show. I was very impressed by it, except for the auto-stick transmission. I tried to use it to slow down, and accidentally ended up nearly redlining the engine (shifted to second at 50 mph, somehow). Then, I wanted to go back to regular automatic mode, and couldn't figure out how to do it without shifting to neutral and back to drive. The car reminded me a lot of my friends '00 Caddy Deville- smooth, fast power in car that's more straight-line than anything, but will handle pretty well if you don't mind hanging on through the body roll. Great seats, too.

I'd drive a F350 CC Lariat Outlaw as a daily driver.

A dark blue BOSS 429 mustang.

My UNI on late modled 4x4. no lift. Just low 4x4 slick

jcg82 12-03-2006 11:41 AM

A full size truck that gets 30-40 mpg.

notyettoday 12-03-2006 04:19 PM

a late 70's early 80s gm big body coupe w/ a vortech 350 or lt1... 20-25mpg, rides like a cloud, and looks half decent... slap some 5 spoke cragars on it and your ready to go.. heh

RangerPilot 12-03-2006 05:32 PM

If I could have anything, I'd take my neighbors project car.

'68 Fastback Mustang, 428 supercharged and a 50 shot, 4 speed manual, 4.10 rear end.

Yeah, auto-stick can be confusing sometime. I have auto-stick on my Dodge Intrepid, but I don't used it often.
