Hurst shifter/on the floor???
 

I recently saw a universal Hurst shift kit that I'm going to study thoroughly. I REALLY want to put it on the floor. Any thoughts on this one????

Put on the floor of what exactly? That'll make a big difference.

I have used Hurst Uni shifters in the past and they work great.... as long as you know how to adjust the shift throw correctly. I would also make sure the shifter length is correct comfort length for the truck. Constantly reaching down to grab a shifter gets old after the first 1/4 mile.

i have seen a few of floor shifts in econos, one of which actually worked right. kinda trickey since the linkage is so long and backwards.

When I got my 64 it had a shufter put in. It was apain. It was low to the floor and hit the doghouse and seat frame. It was sticky.Who ever installed it did a butcher job. I got rid of it and got me a 3 in the tree colunm shift back in. Patched the floor and replaced the rods which were cut with a cutting torch.
So if get a shifter, make sure you have room for it and the handle is high enough up that it has no interference from hitting anything.

one thing to for sure remember is how to mount the shifter.
most are made to mount to the rear of the tranny, you would have to have real long arms in an econo!

Believe me I'm going to eyeball this real good. The one I'm looking at is long and I know I have to be careful of the distance. Thanks

Threaded Rod from lowes makes great shifter arms when the stockers aren't long enough. Again as I said before just make sure they are adjusted correctly.

Used to do 4 speed conversions in vans. If you plan on doing any power shifting, leave the threaded rod at Lowe's and use either DOM or Chromoly tubing with threaded heim ends. Yet, it cost a lot more, but it sure beats having the trans stuck between gears in the middle of an intersection.....

I guess all I need now is a part # that has the long enough shift arm.
