Delimas........

ok

my truck goes for safty on thursday, im not too worried about it passing as i was assured by the owner of the establishment that he would see to it passes.

but

i reciently sold my "sports" car it was my toy so to speak, but it was a bit out of date for me (im going on 30years old) so playing with "kid" cars was out.Besides, my next toy should be something i can pass on to my kid right?

now i have always wanted a mustang. i CAN afford to get a used one, but it would put me into a financial pinch.I know everyone has a Mustang.. but i dont, and i like them.

so here i am. i dont want to get rid of my truck. i like it even though its slow and bulky and rusty. yet i dont know if i want to put money into it. as in restore it.

im looking for advice here from those of you who are or have been in this position

Should i begin the process? is my truck worth the pain of a restoration?
is this truck something id be proud to pass on in 19/20 years?

or should i just hold out till times get better and look for my mustang?

thanks guys

Ok, this scenario is a little different, but I will tell you a TRUE story.

Once upon a time, not so many years ago. There was this guy. In his driveway were various vehicles. His niece was about to be 16 and desperately wanted to own her Uncles little Ford Escort.

Having made the decision to give her said Escort, he went out and purchased an older, but reliable pick up truck. His daily commute was short, and he'd always wanted one of the older pick ups that could be relatively easily repaired, and was paid for. (NO CAR PAYMENTS!)

His niece drove the car for a few months (5?). She got a flat tire and didn't know what to do. So she drove it to her Uncles house. Eight miles. At 65 miles an hour. As you can imagine, the little car was producing so much smoke that he thought it was on fire. Tire ruined. clutch ruined. Various pieces of front end ruined.

Car was parked for a few months while niece decided what she wanted to do.

Eventually, she decided that $1,000 was better spent as a down payment on a new car, rather than fixing the old. The Uncle in question took possession of the car and repaired it.

As money grew tight (it always does), he sold that truck to make a mortgage payment as he now had his Escort back.

One Bankruptcy, One Divorce, and Two years later...I wish I still had that truck.

Just telling it like it is. You been there, I take it. Ask Meg when you meet her. She is the niece in the above story...

YAH! Been there, done that, saw the movie and bought the t-shirt!!! except I was the UNCLE, not the niece, lol! OR the time I bought an ol' pickup to fixup and my wife DECIDED she HAD to have a NEW CAR... there went all my resto money, lol...

tcbofade 10-25-2006 07:31 AM

Yup. I was the Uncle too. Meg is now driving that same little car again, but NO she cannot HAVE it again. My ex also was driving a newer vehicle, but I was OK with that. I was thrilled to be down to one car payment. Loved that truck, but loved my little Escort too.

mrfixit64857 10-25-2006 09:38 AM

Ive seen some escorts I'd love to have, but AHEM that's off topic....

tcbofade 10-25-2006 09:41 AM

FORD Escort. Little white one at the state meet. Blue Oval on both ends of it. Sheesh.

Don't tell slmann or century, but I may be driving it to ***** Louis on the weekend of the 4th/5th. Maybe I can sneak by and put that hood ornament on slmanns' truck...hehehe...we need a spy smilie on here...ala spy vs spy or something...
