Engine Heaters
 

When I put my new engine in my truck I had removed the factory block heater because I was told about issues with the block cracking. I would like to put some sort of heating unit back in my truck but I am unsure what to get. Does anyone know a good unit or what I should or shouldn't look for? I have seen the heaters that go in the radiator hose but I'm not too sure of those.

havnt seen the hose one. i have seen one at napa that you put down the dipstick tube. i was thinking about brazing a heating element to the oil pan at some point.

i have a 2000w tank style heater that plumbs into the heater hoses, it works very well

Your block heater will be fine, that problem was with mid 85 and below year engines. Get a new BH and install it where it was........it will do the better job. That is unless you put an 85 or below engine in........

where would a block heater be located? i found a cord for one under my hood but i have yet to find where it went

Block heaters are just over the starter.........

I installed a block heater on my 84, didn't work, lucky for me after finding out the problems that can arise...I do have a magnet style heater for the oil pan, works ok, doesn't work as well as a block heater, just warms up the oil.

well at least you will not have to wait for the oil to warm up befor you get oil flowing threw the engine.

pan heaters are nice, when its really cold....warmer oil on start up is alwats a good thing. I want one. Ive got two block heaters also...I had the idea that a complete underhood blanket heater would be cool also...like instead of the insulated piece of carpet type thing that pins to the underside of the hood, you could have the same thing with a heating element, along with two block heaters and an oil pan heater lol...I spend my winters in working in camp where power is supplied through a diesel generator and I dont have to pay the bill.

i got it from advance auto ,its a KAT'S by Five Star External Tank Engine heater part# 12200, it should be able to get from any parts stores

You can also try Webasto, its a big name in semi-trucking, and they expanded into the resedential market. IT works Great.
