Poor forum
Its just so lonely and sad in here.
Maybe the Nite people can come make it all homely. |
New member here.92 Nite Flareside.Just rebuilt 5.0 H.O. and after a long bout with tranny shudder and replacing torque converter now I'm having to rebuild tranny. Love the truck...cant part with it ..maybe it'll be new when I get finished

None of the '79 Indy Truck people have been here, either. Well, except for me I guess.

we're still here. obviously we've got the better running trucks on FTE since we don't need to post a new question in this forum everyday.
Nitepack - how much power do you have coming outta that fresh 5.0 HO? stock rebuild? any upgrades? |
Dunno, never had it dyno'ed or anything. Headers, light cam, flowmasters. As long as it does a good job pulling my bass boat and not bogging down thats all that matters to me.
|
nite- it will probably still bog down... after all it is a 302... should have put at least a 351w into it, or 347 stroker if you had to keep the same block... 302 just isnt enough torque to tow anything unless its supercharged or turbocharged :-D
|
320 Pound Feet of torque doesnt cut it for you? (Earlier carbbed 302s had a torque spec like this)
|
I'm from the old school and you can take this for what its worth.I've been towing boats for over 25 years and have had 5.0's before and 300 6cly. and have had no trouble in the least. As long as its not in a 3/4 van it will pull just fine. I will agree that a 5.8 will do the job easier and if I would have thought about only towing maybe I would have but,I wanted to keep the truck as original as possible...its a nite package not a Lightning.

I had a 5.0 in a 1991 F150 and I currently have a 4.6 in a 1999 F150. I read the 4.6 had more power than the 5.0 before I bought the 1999. My 4.6 must be out of spec because the 5.0 had much better power for towing and regular driving. The transmissions and rear ends are the same for my 91 and my 99 and they are both 4x4. I'm selling the 99 to find/buy a 87-91 F150. I just like the older ones better.

That makes sense...if I ran it wound out when I tow, I guess it would be okay...lol. I'll just go get an older truck with a 5.0 or maybe a 5.7. Then I can change my own plugs without using all those extensions and swivels and I can change my oil without going through the wheel well to get the filter out. Oh yeah, I like the quote you use. If you can't pay cash, you can't afford it...it took me toooo long to realize how true that one is.

I've come to make it homely.......
|
being that youre towing with it get the 5.8 (351). 5.0's are more for cars (or trucks used as cars) ;)
|
Yep, Darrin1999...that is kinda what I've been thinking too. Might as well go for the big boy when I buy.
