New Carb....adjustment???

Hey guys, I plan on getting a new edelbrock intake and edelbrock carb but I haven't tinkered with a carb in a looong time. How much adjustment is gonna be needed on a new carb or is it just plug and play so to speak???

MAKO314 08-03-2006 07:51 PM

the edlebrock carb is alot like the rotchester Q -jet on chebbbys the adjustments are limited without dismantling the carb. so basicly plug and play exept for idle adjustment. I think you will be well pleased with your choice :-X22

Ditto what Mako said. The Edelbrocks are very easy to tune even if you need to change metering rods (5 minute job) or if the carb is far off change jets (15-20 minutes). In either case it all can be done on the vehicle and is very simple once you see how it works. Just be sure NOT to pick a carb thats to big for your application, this is the most common mistake I see. Once its set up right it will take next to no maintenance. If you need any advice feel free to ask, I use them myself and know them fairly well.

they are the best way to go the rule is a small block 600cfm, big block 650cfm, now mild build 650 cfm small block, mild build big block 700cfm, overkill build small block 700cfm big block 750 to 800 cfm. that is a genral rule on the carb size, i use a 600 cfm on my ford 302, with a crane cam.

adjustment is real easy and simple nothing to worry about

i know more about holleys myself. i can build em, and supertune em, but the carter (q jets)types I can only rebuild em.
as 79 trailor and NCFire said dont get too many cfms, because that will cause the carb not to open seconadires as necessary as well as use too much gas and many other things.

its funny to hear someone say they have a 17982300 cfm carb on a 4 banger engine.lol

What kind of engine and all do you have D-wolf? seems like you said in another thread, but right now I barely know my own name because im sooo tired..lol

I've got the 351W so I was thinking 600cfm....sound about right. I'm not gonna do any kind of monster build.

79 Trailer Special 08-04-2006 12:05 PM

Yup, 600 CFM should be fine on a mostly stock 351.

Desertwolf 08-04-2006 06:53 PM

Cool, thanks 79!

ncfirefighter46 08-04-2006 11:08 PM

yes a 351w is a small block, 351c and 351/400 M is a big block

Ya do have to admit, not much else looks as good as dual dominators :-X04 except a blower and hilborne injection

was up wolfe, get your new parts orderd? when they come in if you need a hand just let me know I'll send you my phone # in a PM :-X22

Desertwolf 08-05-2006 07:08 PM

Nah not yet...been riding the bike today, so I haven't really had time. Just got home as a matter of fact. I need to look to see if i need the egr version of intake. Will i need an adapter kit for the edelbrock carb??

MAKO314 08-05-2006 07:21 PM

the edlebrock carb fits a spread bore intake like a q-jet carb because the secondaries are larger than the primaries were as a holly fits a square bore because all 4, primary and secondaries are the same size. the edlebrock will offer you more of a seat of the pants feeling when you punch it :-X22
