Keyless Keypad Code

Ok, reading this forum inspired me to look on ebay for new parts. I found the listing below and realized that I don't even know the keypad code on my X. I was willing to pay the dealership the $100. to figure it out but everytime I'm there "the only guy that can look it up" is out.

So is this guy on ebay full of it or does someone here know the trick he's talking about?

Winner will receive detailed instruction on how to find their master code, Instruction on how to use their keypad entry, How to lock and unlock using the keypad, How to set your own personal 5 digit code, and How to erase previous codes

You need no previous mechanical knowledge, ANYONE can do this!

Moderators Edit (7/31/16): The following post from 2011 is being added to this thread from 2006, because every-so-often someone asks for the spread sheet of numbers to be emailed to them instead of just looking it up.

Figured I would put this all in one post to make it easy.

Some models have the keypad on a sticker behind the stereo or other areas. *I have found this is only true on (possibly) 2002 and newer (was not on my 2000).

While searching the forums for the code and instructions it took me a long time. *Maybe the moderator could sticky this version to make future searches easier?

First, the instructions, then below is the string of numbers to enter.

Make sure when pressing the controls on the keyless entry keypad you press the middle of the buttons to ensure good contact with the controls.

Programming Your Own Personal Entry Code

1. Enter the factory-set code (keypad will illuminate when first digit is pressed).

2. Press the 1/2 control within five seconds of step 1.*

3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Enter each digit within five seconds of the previous one.*

Your personal code does not replace the factory-set code. You can use either code to unlock your vehicle. Each time you set a new personal code the module will erase the previous one in favor of the new code. The factory-set code can not be erased.

Erasing Your Personal Code or A Prior Owner's Code

1. Enter the factory-set code.

2. Press the 1/2 control within five seconds of step one 1.

3. Press the 7/8 and 9/0 controls at the same time within five seconds of step two.

The system will now only respond to the factory-set code.

Unlocking the Doors

1. Enter either the factory-set code or the personal code (Each digit must be pressed within five seconds of the prior digit). The interior lights will illuminate as soon as the first valid digit is pressed.

2. To unlock all the doors, enter the factory set code or a personal code and press the 3/4 control within five seconds of the drivers door unlocking.

Locking the Doors

1. Press 7/8 and 9/0 controls at the same time. The 5-digit code does not have to be entered to lock the doors.

Deactivating/Activating Auto-lock

1. Enter the five 5-digit code.

2. Press and hold 7/8 control.

3. Press and release 3/4 control while holding 7/8 control.

4. Release 7/8 control.

The horn will chirp once if auto-lock was deactivated or twice if auto-lock was activated.

Now, the string to enter. *Don't be intimidated, it is actually easy and takes most people about 10-15 minutes to do. *Well worth it considering most dealers charge over $100 to hook it to the computer.

Don't waste your money. A little work on your part and you'll have your numbers. It's above the radio behind the dash. Use a small flashlight, you might have to push aside some wires or insulation, but it is up there. Good luck.

xTraveler 08-01-2006 06:11 PM

Ok, first of all thank you, you just saved me money!

Now, I’ve pried loose the outer section of the dashboard which holds the radio and have pulled it out several inches. But I’m not sure exactly what I’m looking for? Will it be a sticker or stamped into the plastic? Will it be a four digit number? Do you have a better idea of where it will be? If I find a number how do I test it? Please help ASAP. Thanks again.

ExcursionMan 08-01-2006 06:32 PM

It's on the bottom of what looks like a small box. It should be five numbers. Enter them in order on your keypad. When you enter the last numeral, the driver door will unlock. Within 5 seconds push the 3/4 button and the rest of the doors will unlock. To lock the doors simply push the 7/8 then the 9/0 button and the doors should lock.

I wish you best of luck finding the code. I found the box behind the radio and mine was black. There were no numbers I could see without pulling out the entire dash. I have a 2000 EX. I also saw the add on ebay and then thought I saw $20.00 with wings flying away. Hope you find your code. Too bad it isn't on the vehicle somewhere like in the jack storage, door jam,, or under the hood as in my Lincoln.

So I don't have the code either. Jim

Thanks again ExcursionMan but I must agree with vettdvr that this is not an easy search. I pretty much removed that section of the dash and spent nearly two hours searching. I did find several numbers but they were all longer than five digits. I’m going to put the search on hold until this weekend so I’ll have more time and fewer distractions. If you have any additional suggestions between now and then I’ll take all the help I can get. Oh just curious, do you think this is the “secret” the guy on ebay is selling because if so he’s going to upset a lot of people by making it sound easy.

I also bought the info from e-bay ($15.00) however the info I got was very easy to follow and I had the code in 5 min. All I did was take off the fuse access pannel and with a strong flash light look up towards the fire wall "behind the radio" mine was a light grey box aprox. 6"x6" the number was printed on a sticker on that box. The sticker was upside down but that is where the numbers are. Good Luck Mike

Mike you mentioned you took off the fuse panel. I assume you mean the entire panel under the steering column and not the panel under the radio. Also what model is yours, Mine is a 2000. Jim

OK, for some reason they don't come up on a FTE article search but while searching google I found these instructions which actually come from an FTE article. They are by far the most detailed set of directions I've seen.

Security Keyless Keypad Programming on 2002+ Super Duty and Excursions

(Note: These instructions should work with other Ford's as well. If you have specific locations and supplemental information for other Ford trucks and suv's please let us know).
When your vehicle was newly purchased from the dealer it came with a card in the owner’s manual packet that had the keypad code on it. The packet is often lost over time and as the vehicle trades owners the code to the Keyless Entry is lost. Ford Dealers wants some big money to get the code for you by plugging in their computer to retrieve the code or using the following method. There is a much easier way for you to get the code and you don’t need any tools or automotive knowledge. I’ll show you how and where to find the code and how to reset the Keyless Entry back to the factory code or your personal code number.

There are three ways to find to it. One is a lot easier than the other but less work if you have a good eye and great flashlight. There are some Excursions, F250 and F350s that have a different wiring system so the first location to look is just above the right front kick panel; the RAP module is black in color with the numbers on the front the same as the white module. If you look above the kick panel you can see it really clear without taking anything apart. If it is not at this location please follow the next step.

This part is not hard to do you will need to remove the front cover under the steering wheel that says fuse box. (It has 4 plastic screws to remove) under the dash, the five (5) digit code is on the Cream/white box behind the radio, look to the top right of the open fuse box cover through the wires. (Towards the fire wall look through where my finger is pointing). At the back firewall, look for a 5 digit code on a sticker on a cream/white box. This is not easy but if you try every angle I promise it will appear don’t forget to use a very powerful flashlight if you want to see it.

The second way is a more time consuming job because you have to remover the stereo and to the rear you’ll be able to see the 5 digit code very easy. This process can take 2-10 minutes.

This is a picture of the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module. This is the module you are looking for there is nothing that identifies it as the RAP module (Some RAP modules are Black in color & it could also be up side down). It is the only box in the dash with the large bold type set with five numbers on it these is the five (5) digit code you will need from the module. Write this number down this is the factory code for your Keyless Entry.

Now that you’ve got the code I’ll tell you how to use the Keyless entry and set-up your own code.

Make sure when pressing the controls on the keyless entry keypad you press the middle of the buttons to ensure good contact with the controls.

Programming Your Own Personal Entry Code

1. Enter the factory-set code (keypad will illuminate when first digit is pressed).

2. Press the 1/2 control within five seconds of step 1.

3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Enter each digit within five seconds of the previous one.

The horn will chirp once if auto-lock was deactivated or twice if auto-lock was activated.

xTraveler. the info that you posted is the same info I bought off of e-bay it worked great for me on my 2002 Excursion. Good luck to all!

xTraveler 08-18-2006 08:15 AM

Wow, so the info being sold on ebay is actually a FTE article. Isn't there a copyright issue there?

I bought a low mileage 2003 Excursion Limited a week ago. Like many people I had no access to the keyless entry code.

This is how I solved my problem.......

1- By sight, I found the module directly behind my AM/FM/CD6 player. Mine is black plastic, as oppsed to some being light gray and/or white?
2- I could not read the code from any imaginable angle because of wires, cables, crossbars, etc...... Even my daughter who is 1/4 my age and half my size couldn't see the code from any angle whatsoever.
3- I went to the passenger's side under the "trash bag hanger?" and stuck my hand up to the module. There was plenty of room to reach up to it, but not enough room to read the code. I felt the sticker on the module from top to bottom, side to side. I prepared my attack.
4- I started on one corner with a fingernail and peeled the sticker off very slowly so as to not damage or destroy it.
5- To save the next owner the same troubles, I stuck the sticker on the inside of the last page in Owner's Manual.

Once I located the exact location of the module, the entire procedure took less than 20 to 30 seconds. <!-- / message -->

I haven't found it on my 00 either. I saw what appeared to be the "black box" but no lables on it or any where else on the truck. Not to mention the previous owner kept the id plate w/code. Jim

The Auto-Lock feature does not work on my X...

This function was available on my '00 F150 and I was disappointed tht I couldn't find it on my '01 X. I thought it was a nice safety feature especially for my wife.
