2000 f-150 How many quarts of oil
 

Hello,

I just got my 2000 f-150 4.6 litre from a friend. No manual was in the car. How many quarts of oil should I put in.

My book from a 1998 quotes six quarts of oil. My suggestion, put four in, check it. Add a fifth quart. Check it, start it to get it circulating. And then check it again. Probably will need the sixth.

My manuel from my 97 says 6 quarts. Like Kijutsu said, just put about four or so and keep checking it from there till you find the sweet spot.

my 2000 with a 4.6 takes 6 qt

Just dump in 6qts, and she will be right at the top mark on the dip stick.

Actually, for most of these engines, 6 quarts will put the level about midway in the "O.K." range. That's why the dealers will often charge you for 7. If you feel the need to be full-up, you will probably need 6-1/2 qts.; but as the manual states, 6 quarts is adequate.

If your dipstick shows full with 6 quarts, you may have some sludge build up in the pan, or the oil did not drain completely. To a point, this is no cause for alarm.

Mine takes 6.5 quarts but I just quoted what the manuel says, cause 6 will put it in the safe range but 6.5 tops it off to the full line.
