Urgent, everyone must do!
 

Everyone go to fordvehicles.com, and select the build and price an 07 expedition. When you get to the end it includes a selection for future options being considered, one being a 4.5 DIESEL ENGINE!!! Everyone go build and expedition and select the 4.5 DIESEL ENGINE at the end. I know everyone wants to see a diesel in an expy, so lets get the ball rolling.

I've done every day for the last two weeks at home and at work. We need this engine!!

How many of you are willing to actually shell out the thousands of dollars for the diesel option?

Hmmm...good question. Price is $2500. If that holds true, that's a pretty good deal on a 300HP diesel.

From Ford's site

"4.5L V8 Diesel Engine

300+ horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque. The diesel is designed to get 3-4 mpg better fuel economy on average compared to the 5.4L gas engine."

Think about it this way.. Assuming maintenance costs are identical, what is your return on investment by spending the extra $2500 to get a 5 mpg difference.

Lets say you get 15 mpg on a 5.4 expy. At $2.89/gal that equates to $.19/mile. For the diesel lets say you get 20 mpg and I think diesel is slightly higher that gas so we'll use $3.09/gal, that's $.154/mile.

Now you paid an extra $2,500 for the diesel engine option, how long will it take to break even. Well, the difference is $.036/mile. That means you would have to drive 69,445 miles to break even. At 15,000 per year that's 4.63 years, almost the life of your loan if you fianance.

To me that's a long time to just break even! I only drive about 12,000 miles per year so that would take me to almost 6 years! They are going to have do give better incentives to make it worth while to buy one.

here in minnesota the cost of gas to diesel is almost even therefore, the extra 2500 is a no brainer, 300stock HP with 450 tq.... plus for those of us that take road trips, filling up every 250miles compared to 310-320 with the diesel is a bonus in your wallet on those long trips where u dont want to spend a butt load of cash getting somewhere... plus with a diesel you can chip it :) you know what that means! i smell burnt rubber

If you remember back when Ford introduced the 6.0, I believe they promised better mileage--that didn't happen across the board. Lots of reported mileage less than the 7.3.

I just don't trust the marketing hype. But then, we are talking 5.4 gasser vs diesel--maybe it will happen.

Surprised no one mentioned the 4.6V8 Gas-Electric Hybrid option. Hmmmm. If I were a gambler, I'd say that was the option that'd fly on that model.

We'd buy the diesel, especially with a torqshift! The option that really interests my wife is the back-up camera (like the '07 Tahoe has). Once she saw one of those, it's become a "must have" item! (we tow a lot, so hooking up is always a pain)We'll be ready to upgrade our current Expy in a year or two, sooner if some of these options make it down the line...

I'd go with the diesel. The life of the engine is 2 - 3 time as long.
I've know several people I have an Excursion and I've meet several people that say they get 19 on the highway with thier diesel 6.0 and I get 15 on a 5.4. I was just on a trip and diesel seems to be on averge the same cost as gas up to were you buy it. In Indiana it has been running lower. I only went with the gas due to I got a bigger rebate on the gas that made it hard to pass.

I voted for the hybrid. You would think they would already have options like gas/electric hybrid or diesel in the works considering the sustained increase in gas prices.
