Boss 6.2 and new v6 engine for Cleveland
On april 12 the local 1250 approved the new work for the casting plant and engine plants No.1 and No.2. This vote was to approve new work and the new work rules that comes with it. Right now the engine is referred too as the "Boss"
Triton engine. The 3.5 and 4.0 v6 engines will be built in plant along with an updated 3.0 engine. Lots of work in Cleveland. |
What Vehicles will the 6.2 come in?
Will the 6.2 be a replacement for the 6.8 v10?
|
what's the hp and tq numbers for the motors again?
|
I thought they were doing away with the 4.0L???????
I hope not, the last thing the Ranger needs is a car engine in it. |
i dont think the 6.2 is replacing the v10.and for the v6 there would be more happy customers if they brang back the I6

The 5.4 will be out for 2010 in the truck and I suspect that the V-10 will be gone as well. The block for the 5.4 and V-10 are cast in Cleveland,OH and that plant is closing casting operations for 2010. The new V8 is capable of far more horsepower and torque than the current Triton engines. The displacement due too the larger bore spacing and the excellent breathing and direct injection allow for a much more powerful and efficient engine. The block for the new V8 is to be cast by TUPY in a foundry in the USA. The crank line and other parts are to be machined in the ESSEX/ Windsor plant.
New equipment for the crank line arrived in February and is being installed now. On the 6 cylinder front, I can not say. I only have a rumor. Most work for a 6 cylinder engine has been on the 3.5/ 3.7l engine for cars and SUV's. Right now there are 7 different diesel engine programs and all are too be in production by 2010. A whole lot of work. |
According to ford world, the V-10 is to be replaced with a 7 liter V-8, the 6.2's big brother. The 7.0 is making 700 hp all motor in one of roush's racing mustangs and runs on E-85. More than likely a detuned version for the super duty of around 450 hp or so. The ranger is out after 09, a new F-100 mid size for 2010 along with the new bronco built on the same platform. The bronco will be a true off roader with straight front and rear axles and removable top, plus folding windsheild, a return to it's roots. It's to go head to head with the wrangler and hummer H-4. The base engine for the F-100 will be a V-6 with V-8 option. Then in 2012 the ranger returns, the same size as the current ranger if not a tad smaller with the 4 cylinder as it's main engine. The new ranger is being developed in austraila for the world market as a replacement for all of fords compact p/u's including the currier still produced in the land down under. The new ranger will be sold around the world including the U.S. This article is flaoting around the ranger forum right now under the thread, "09 last year for the ranger", or something like that, just read it this morning. Ford will have the super duty, F-150, F-100 and a compact, thier still very much is the truck buiness.

^^^^ Has ford said anything about this or is it just all mostly gossip right now?

Just for giggles the engine in Don Bowles Mustang is making about 850 Hp on the dyno.
The Ranger will be mainly diesel powered but there will also be a gas engine. The rest is not confirmed by Ford. I doubt seriously that Ford will rate any engine in the trucks much over 400 Hp. From what I have heard the EPA told the car manufacturers back at the Detroit autoshow in January to stop the horsepower race or the federal government will! Ford will probably use a different rating or under rate the engines. I have heard that they are discussing the options. That is all I know. |
some where in nmra tv is a clip of that run doug made with that motor which they were attemping to keep hidden. best part was doug is near my age [60+] and drives that car with a stick shift.
also the now current 4.0shoc from germany will be replaced with the edges 3.5 dohc motor that while smaller and lighter due to the pressure cast alloy block makes more h.p. the the 4.0. ranger thats reached the end of it's long run with ford. to much compation from the other brands from the far east |
Yes Don is 68 years young. He can still pull the lever with the best!
The Ranger may take a leave for a year, but the Ranger will be made for many years , maybe not here in the USA ,but Thailand and South Africa, with some imported to the USA. If demand is high enough then the new Ranger will be built in Kentucy along with the new Explorer. |
Ford has under rated HP before like in the 428 Cobra-Jet Engine

People can say what they want about fuel costs but this is a test to see how high people will pay before they start conserving. It is like everything they push until the people start raising heck then back off for awhile then go again until what they want it DONE. Mr Bush made it clear WE NEED TO BE WHINED OFF FOSSIL FUEL. Yes he said import oil but I got the point. |
I wonder what the fuel mileage of the 7 liter will be compared to the current 6.8?
