Dual Steering Stabilizers
 

I would like to install Dual Steering Stabilizers on my 2005 Super Duty V10, does anyone use the dual setup? Which brand is built better?
Fabtech or Superlift? Im still using the factory 17" wheels and tires.
Is it true that the dual set up will put more strain on the power steering pump?

I have a 2006 v10 f250, the factory stabilizer started leaking. The dealer was going to replace it with the same thing that was on the truck. I went to a local off road store and purchased a fab tach stabilizer, i could tell a big difference in how it handled with the new stabilizer on. As to dual stabilizers i would stay away from that it will put more pressure on the steering system, you really do not need dual stabilizers unless you have tires that are larger than 35's. I did have to use a puller to remove the bolt that is in the drag link :-X22

Gage - EnviroCon runs dual DR's on his SD. I was considering doing duals when I did my lift, but as syd724 stated unless you are running 35's or larger you shouldn't. Any aftermarket stabilizer will be better than the stock one. I am running a single Rancho right now even though I could have gotten the Fabtech duals cheaper. I am still on 33's so I did not want to risk doing damage to my steering box with the duals.

syd724 and Darren make an excellent point, If you don't have the large tires and/or don't run your truck on terrain that's bouncing or slamming your front end a lot (washboards, ruts, SoCal freeways, etc.), then the benefits a dual system provide are lost with the extra strain on your steering gearbox. And the Stock SD gearbox isn't exactly the toughest out there. I ran a single Rancho replacement before I switched to duals and it worked fine for about 99% of the terrain I drove on. Where I really saw the benefit of a dual setup was on the SoCal freeways and driving long stretches (100+ miles) of un-maintained dirt roads in Mexico. But if you want them because you just really like the look of duals, and there's nothing wrong with that, they aren't going to grenade your gearbox right away, just understand that they're definitely going to shorten it's lifespan. As for Superlift vs. Fabtech. In terms of quality, I don't think either is the clear winner, both are known to have good quality. I do prefer the mounting location of the Fabtech above the tie-rod, but Superlift has the option of Bilsteins, so I'd probably mix and match if those were my 2 choices. Fabtech mount, Superlift branded Bilstein Shocks.

Jonathan - is Superlift now offerring Bilstein stabilizers? When I did my lift only DR was offerring Bilstein shocks with their lift kits. Shortly after that DR switched to their re-badged Bilstein shocks and stabilizers along with Superlift offerring Bilstein shocks with their lift kits. Just curious.

BTW how is the LR3 doing? You know the G4 Challenge started today. Wish someone was providing TV coverage on it other than LR's internet TV. The wife has taken over the RRC so I am out a wheeling rig right now. Trying to convince a friend that has a Sammie in his backyard to sell it to me cheap. If he does you will be hearing from as I don't know a lot about them other than they make great wheeling rigs!! :-D :-D

Yes, but it couldn't have been to long ago that they starting offering the Select Series stabilizers. I first saw them on a SD in Huntington Beach, CA about 4 or 5 months ago.

Jonathan - I put the lift kit on last summer just before DR came out with their Select Series. I went with the Fabtech 3.5 hanger kit as I got everything for 1/3 of the price in a closeout sale. At the time no one was offering a Bilstein stabilizer as I really wanted one to match my 5100 shocks.

Truth be told, that's the only reason I went with the DR dual kit. While I wouldn't trade the 5100's on each corner for anything, I think there are quite a few less expensive stabilizer shocks out there that would be equally effective for most purposes. So it really was just a splurge.

Price was the driving factor for what I got. There was a closeout sale and I got everything for 1/3 off the normal price. That is why my lift is a mixture of Fabtech, Superlift, Bilstein, and Rancho. The NY winter has taken it's toll on the shocks however. They are all pitted from the salt already. It really bummed me out and I even had them clear coated to help protect them. I am going to have them striped and repainted. Hopefully they will look better after that.
