Cost to replace Timing Chain Guide?
 

I need my front timing chain guide replaced. For those that have paid to have it done, what did you spend? How much to do both?

The local Ford dealer is charging $1400.

For $1400 they had better be pulling the engine and replacing BOTH guides, heck the whole assembly for that kind of money. I've had mine "fixed" twice [under warranty], my advice is save your money - they can't fix it because they just put the same defective part in.

They quoted $2800 to do both.

I'm up to $1550 now on the main guide.

Ford is saying that they now have an upgraded guide.

You've got be kidding me on those prices? I am not sure what I would do if the service guy gave me a quote like that. Ultimate fighting i assume. Anyway I do know that these service writers make commission off of the work they sell that is why they advise all of the little bells and whistles. An honest guy doesn't make an exorbant amount of money but he can sleep at night. Others charge 2800 for a timing tensioner replacement.

I turned my car in on Wednesday evening last week and now received it back the next Wednesday morning.

They charged me the following:
Parts: $316.59 (of which $127.74 was for the timing guide kit)
Gas-Oil-Grease: $13 (oil was also charged in the Parts)
Technicians Labor: $1033.13
Total for Concern: $1362.72

Then they add to this:
Diagnostic Charge: $99.95
Service Materials: $30 (I am not sure what these are, a $24 tube of silicone was already in the parts)
Record History: $1.75 (but they still purge my records after a year)
Tax: $53.60

Combined with an A/C diagnostic/repair of $593.65 (replace compressor tube) and the total bill was $2141.67

I have a 1979 ford f150 and i need new timing chain guides but i can't find them online to order anywhere or should i just go to the dealership? Can anyone help? The motor is a 351 modified.

Welcome to fte. You are in the wrong forum. I will get back to you later as working off my phone is a nuisance. That said you should be able to find a timing set for that easily. 351m and 400 use the same thing.

How many Labor hours would that have been estimated?
