226 HopUP

I've just bought a '42 PU that runs great, but I can't leave well enough alone, so I'm looking for a stock exhaust maniold and a mutliple carb intake and a higher compression head. Got out my pld 50's hot rod mags and they did make part sor them so now starts the search. I got my '45 PU with a SBC in it and my open wheeled '47 PU with another SBC so it's time for a Ford with a Ford in it and nothing sounds sweeter to me that a good running 6.Will also try and find an extra distributor to change over to a unilite at some point or possibly use a Petronix system that they have for the 40's passenger car 6. Anyone got any ideas, hints, parts or war stories to help light the path? I joined the InLiners International and got a copy of California Bills book on Flathead Ford 8 and 6's. I don't want anything wild, I have a pro gas car for that, I just want to drive the 16 miles into town and back with the same big smile that I had 40 years ago.

Aftermarket manifolds and heads pop up on Ebay once in a while but are in demand and getting a premium price these days. Kansas Kustoms can split your exhaust manifold to a dual outlet.
Good luck, I have pretty much given up aftermarket parts for the 226 myself my pockets just aren't that deep. In my own mind I just can't justify dumping that much money into a Flathead 6. For the price of that aftermarket equipment I could completly rebuild a SBC and install it. I'm keeping my eye open for a salvageable 8BA for my 51 down the road.
Check out my gallery, I just installed an S-10 5 speed on my 226 and I just love it.

Managed to get an Isky Cam (NOS) off ebay on a buy it now today for the 226,it was $125.00 so it's starting, Clifford just sedms to deal with the newer engines.

Just an FYI, the 226 came in two diffefent versions in the later years. The OHA and the 7HA versions and each had a different number of teeth 7 or 8 on the oli pump drive gear. They recommend replacing that drive gear when using a new cam. Joblot Automotive carries them, they are the only ones I know of that do. Just be aware of this and don't get the gears crossed.

Thank you , will have to archive that info, along with the 5 speed info. Mine is the G model. I know there is an H model as well and that the distributors are in different spots on the block, the middle for the G and front for the H

Yea I thought you had the "G" with the distributor in the front, In have the 51 OHA model in my 51. Have you seen that little G series engine manual that popps up on Ebay every so often, they refer to as the Green Bible. I bought one awhile back it has a lot of useful information in it.

If it's the same one I already had a copy of it, if thes works, here is the cam from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT , I'm hoping it's the right one, the manual said 41-47 and the ad says to 48, I'm computer tolerant, not literate so if the ebay listing doesn't come through I'll try again

Yea it looks like a cam for a G series from what I can see of it. I contacted Delta cam in Tacoma awhile back and as I recall they said they would regrind my cam for $85.00 and resurface the solid lifters for $3.00 each
