Garmin

Anyone have any experience with the Garmin GPS II+(Plus)? I have an accessory cable that goes from the same place as the power connector back to the serial port on my laptop. The unit did not come with any software if their is something to do with the computer, can someone shed some light on my situation?
Thanks,
RC

I don't have the II+, but I do have two other Garmin GPS.

Both have the accesory/power cable as one piece.

Garmin offers a piece of software called MapSource. There a couple of different versions of it. It allows you to download different mapsets into your GPS.

Here is a link to the manual for the II+

I have the Etrex Legend, and if there is any use for the cable without the Software (Mapsource) I still don't know what it is.

I do not know about that model of GPS, but, usually the plug has four prongs.

2 serial lines for handshaking

The power comes from the computer serial port to power the device and the serial lines are used for data transfer using simple serial line handshaking up to 115 kps, sometimes they use either xmodem crc or ymodem.
