Acetone in the water injection???
 

I have read with interest alot on the subject of running acetone in the fuel tank (3 oz in 10 gallons) for better mileage, and a cleaner running motor. I am currently trying it for the first time in my 95 4.0L, 5 speed, Explorer to determine if I can achieve better than 18 MPG.

I have also read alot about water injection and it's advantages. What if the acetone was premixed with the water in the injection system to distribute the mix without running through all the components that could clog up with gunk like injectors, fuel pumps, filters, etc. etc.

I would run the water injection on my 83 F-150 with a 300 I-6, not the explorer because of excess spare room, and ease of working on it. Give me your thoughts, concerns, and opinions.

why woud you inject water and acetone? the only thing you should inject is water and methonal.

The acetone needs to be in the gasoline for it to do any good. Firstly, it cleans your injectors so they do a better job. Next the acetone reduces the surface tension of the gasoline, so the gas can be atomized into smaller droplets, which burn more completely - less into the converter & out the exhaust.

Expect it to take a few tank fulls to see results and don't overdo it or you will pay with your gas mileage (start out at 2 oz/10 gallons, track mileage & slowly creep up to see where your powertrain is optimized).

Don't expect to see great gains in gas mileage. My F150 got ~10% improvement w/a 302/auto/EFI.

Expect to see a potential dropoff in your gains after a while. Once your system's clean or your computer figures out what's up (not a clear reason why just yet) your gains may drop off - reduce your mix to maybe 1 oz/10 gallons or run acetone every few tanks or so rather than every one. My knowledge is a few months old so maybe peruse a few updated websites

what about adding acetone to a carb system? anyone ever experimented there?
