building a 2.3 turbo ranger
 

i have recently bought a 2.3 motor out of a turbocoupe i am building to drive daily and also show some i am looking for parts' like heads intake intercooler.. just in general i want parts that i can clean up and show any ideas where i can find them

Sounds like a fun project. I was torn between doing that with my Ranger or going with the V8 swap. I love the rumble of a V8 so...

That's what made mine for me...I got an almost complete ex-highway patrol Mustang for $185 bucks. Trashed, wrecked and disassembled, but it had the 5.0 and T5 so I jumped on it.

I have a couple of tubos for a 2.3, I may have to put a 2.3 turbo motor together and swap in into something else. I do have another Ranger...

that is what i need is the truck but i building the motor first to i can run when i find the truck

A good intercooler would be a Volvo intercooler or a powerstroke intercooler. For good IC piping you can buy a kit on ebay 2.5" polished aluminum piping with blue silicone boots and all the clamps you need for 180$ it's a good deal.

Of course there's also the clearance factor to consider. That Volvo intercooler is a good unit and easy to find, and I would certainly use it if there's room for it but it is pretty large. If space is a factor the other extreme is the much-harder-to-find Mustang SVO intercooler. A nice compact unit that lays flat under the hood. There may some other small intercoolers out there if anybody knows...

what are the years on the volvo one

Mid-80s. I had an '85 740 turbo with the intercooler, I think they brought them out in '84 or so and built them for several years. I don't think they put the intercooler on all turbo models though, look for the "Intercooler" on the trunk lid. I'm not too up on Volvo stuff anymore so I'm not certain about the years.

EDIT: An Ebay search for Intercoolers turns up some interesting possibilties...

SVO intercoolers can be found all over the place. With the exception of those wishing to keep their cars fairly stock, most folks switch over to a front mount setup and usually end up selling off the stock intercooler. It isn't going to work well in anything but an SVO anyway. Without any airflow over it, it just becomes a heat sink and not a very good one at that.

True, it has to have good airflow. But anyone who's doing a swap like this has to do some some fabricating anyway, and a little creativity towards finding a mounting location that puts it in the airstream will certainly not be out of line. Installation of SVO-style hood ducts or what have you...

It's been in the back of my mind to build a twin-turbo motor for my Tiger for some time now, and I had thought of using two small intercoolers as well. Space is at a premium in these cars and they would have to be mounted someplace where I would most likely have to run a duct to them.

Figuring out how to overcome the obstacles in swaps like this is half the fun!
