Ranger 4cylinders
 

Does anyone have specifications on the last three 4cyls in Rangers? I have only found this on the 2.3 Duratec:
Output is 143 hp (107 kW) at 5250 rpm with 154 ft·lbf (209 N·m) of torque at 5750 rpm.

What about the 2.5 Duratec and 2.3L OHC? I think I remember reading somewhere the OHC was below 100HP.. I'm guessing the 2.5 would have the most HP? Would mileage be about the same for all of these?

The 2.5L 4 cylinder was a Lima like the OBD1 and OBD2 2.3L Lima engines.

If you want specs, try the autos section at MSN.com and look up a Ranger or B-truck.

The Duratec has reported hwy mpg's over 30.


The 2.5L Lima rated at 117hp and the 2.3L Lima rated at about 112 in OBD2 form and about 100, or less, in 94-earlier form.

The 2.5L Duratec you mention is the v6 in the Contour clones that may not be in use anymore, that I remember.

At wikipedia.org it says that the 2.5L Duratec was in the rangers from 98-00.. Is this wrong?

Wikipedia is not always correct. The 2.5l inline 4-cylinder engine was never called "Dureatec" to my knowledge. It has been called "Lima", as it was from the Lima, OH plant originally, and eventually, Brazil(the country, not the one in Indiana).
The Duratec label applies to the DOHC 4-banger available in the '00 and up, and to the v6 DOHC series used in Probe, Contour, and Taurus (and other) car lines.
If you want to get exact details, I'd forsake wikipedia as they have not policed their data as well as I would prefer. Just my opinion on Wiki.

So, I'm guessing the Duratec is the best out of the rest? Did they end the 2.5 in '00 and then go to the Duratec, or are they both offered? I've heard people talking of their 4cyls not having much power/acceleration being s l o w, does the Duratec fix most of this? It only has about 10-20HP less than the 4.0, doesnt it?
EDIT: Ah wait, the Duratec 2.3 has only 20HP less than the Cologne OHC, right?

How is acceleration on the 2.3/2.5 OHCs? I've heard complaints; is it difficult to get up to speed on highway and other places?

My 99 supercab has the 2.5L with the 4.10 axle and 5speed. Acell is ok and it has no problem maintaining speed. The new 16 valve 2.3L from mid 2001 to present is better though. I have one of those in my 2005 Escape and it is stronger + better MPG

Wroclaw: Nope.
Gates Rubber Co has a page listing all the engines which use cogged belts and which are interference. www.gates.com ... flail around there for the chart.
