Serpentine belt ? for 2002 F350 7.3L
 

I have a 2002 F350 7.3L PSD 4x4 CC SB SRW that according to the window sticker came with the Camper Package and 9900 GVWR package. The Motorcraft website lists two different belts for the F350 7.3L. One is a JK81227 (camper package & standard duty alternator) and the other is a JK81223AA (over 8500GCW standard duty alternator). Mine has only one alternator and I don't believe it is a heavy duty one. The number that shows on my original belt is 1C2E-8620-LA. No other number is listed. According to the local Ford dealership parts depot that number corresponds to the Motorcraft JK81227. On my wife's 2001 Excursion 7.3L PSD 2wd her belt number of YC3E-8620-AA corresponds to the Motorcraft JK81223AA. What is the difference between the two Motorcraft belts? I went to several auto parts stores here and when they put in the JK81227 Motorcraft number their computer gives them a Gates belt number KO81223. The Motorcraft JK81223AA is a match for the Gates KO81213. My question is what belt should I be getting for my truck?

You should take a looksee and make sure you have 1 alternator and if so get the the belt for a single alternator configuration. The only diffirence would be the length of the belts. Or you could take your belt off and match it up to the new one.

The two Motorcraft belt numbers I listed are for a single alternator configuration. I only have one alternator. I just don't know what the camper package has that would require a different belt number.

i do believe that there are two different widths, one is a 7 rib and the other one is a wider, 8 rib belt.

I measured 1 1/16" width and counted 8 ribs on the JK81223AA belt I bought before I realized there was a JK81227. The JK81223AA will fit my wife's 2001 Excursion 2wd 7.3L PSD single alternator so I'm not really out any money. Hers will need changing soon enough. If I remember right I believe I counted 7 ribs on my F350's original belt. Tomorrow I'll go outside and recount the ribs and measure the width of the original belt. But why would there be belts with different widths for the 7.3L?

I inspected the original belt on my F350. It measures 1 1/16" wide and has 8 ribs. My son and I have looked at the configuration of the belt on my F350 and my wife's Excursion and cannot see any difference that stands out. Until I take off the F350 original belt and measure its length I don't know what else to say. I am still confused as to what belt to get.

You are going down the right path now.

Take it off and take it with you to the parts house. Remember to drain about a five gallon bucket's worth of coolant out so that you can remove that top radiator hose to get the hose off.

Ford has a better idea!

If you're up for it, you could also buy the upper radiator hose for a dual-alternator Powerstroke, and not have to remove the hose next time you want to remove the belt.

I was planning to replace the belt along with flushing the coolant system with distilled water, replacing the radiator hoses (yes I already got the upper hose that goes around the belt), replacing the thermostat with a 203 degree unit, replacing the upper thermostat housing with a billet aluminum one, replacing the lower inlet housing with another stock one, then refilling the system with Zerex G-05.

I did find out something else. The JK81227 belt is 122.7" long and the JK81223AA belt is 122.3" long. According to a guy at a different Ford parts department, the JK81223AA is for a 7.3L with a cold weather package, whatever that is. Since my truck was delivered to Georgia, I don't believe it would have that. It is not listed on my window sticker I kept. But the JK81223AA is shown as the belt for my wife's Excursion and a cold weather package is not on her sticker either. That's strange.
