1997 f-250 LD ABS question

did a search and didn't find an exact match- the other night i was driving home and noticed the brake lights were stuck on. i pulled over and checked the connections on the brake light switch and it was connected. when i got back in the truck i started it up and the ABS light was on. will a bad brake light switch do this? i tried to compare the brake light switch to the one on my 2000 f-150 but it is different. thanks in advance.

Yes - according to TSP 417-01 a bad brake light on/off switch can cause this problem. It's the Brake ON/OFF (BOO) Switch C252. According to the TSP if you turn your ignition key to ACC and your brake lights are illuminated then you have a bad BOO Switch - Hope this helps...

thanks- thats what i thought it was but i wasn't sure. i just thought if there was a problem with the brake light switch the ABS light would flash- but you learn something everyday! thanks for the help.

found the problem- we put a cheap trailor brake controller on our f-250LD. it turns out that the button that you press to apply the brakes was jammed in and when i pulled over that night i started the truck back up the ABS computer must have thought there was something wrong with the brake light switch. i did not know that button when pressed also illuminates the brake lights. oh well- it is fixed- thanks for the info befuddledguy, i'm sure i will use it someday!
