I've been looking into that -

In 1927 there was a ten day long recording session in Bristol, but Bristol is in both Tennessee AND Virginia...

It looks to me like either one could claim it, though Tennessee was the first to pass a resolution naming Bristol as "The Birthplace of Country Music".

Kinda makes you say "Huhh...", don't it?

Tenn may not be the birth place but Nashville is the home of country music.

The Bristol Sessions took place on the Tennessee side of state street. (In Bristol the double lines down the middle of State Street are the TN/Va line.) Bristol, Tn has been recoginized by Congress as the Birthplace of Country Music. You can visit the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance's website at www.birthplaceofcountrymusic.org.

This website will provide you with all of our Upper Northeast Tennessee Musical Hertiage information.
