well, this is boggers wife cause he hates computers, so about us, marcy and dave from beaverlodge ab. thats just a little west of grande prairie. we bought our truck 9 yrs ago and after a couple years landed her against a power pole after a couple rolls(ice, wind and gravel) and had to park her. didn't think we would ever get her up and running again, ok, not true she ran kinda but the body was toast and then we got lucky and stumbled on a body and started the rebuild. 5 yrs to get her road worthy. 78 f250 400 manual 4x4 dana 60's 411 gears 11 inch lift, combination of body and frame 38 super swampers. of course there's more specifics but I better stick to what I know for sure. we've bogged with her a few times in the last few years and took home some trophies, kinda cool. so now we have had a 460 built that dynod at 580hp with 500+ lbs of torque, did I get that right??? I found this sight looking for answers to switching out the manual for an automatic cause we sure did not know as much as we thought we did when we found out we couldn't put the motor in.(silly, had it built for an automatic before we had one) so here we are looking for a tranny that will work with the existing 205 transfer case. Frustrating, but hey all things in good time.

Howdy Marcy & Dave from Beaverlodge, welcome to FTE, sounds like you need a C6, I had a '78 Highboy F250 that I bought new, rolled it in October of '79. For your tranny needs I would suggest you contact the autowrecker in Peace River, HillTop is the name if I recall correctly. Is your 205 T-case mated to the tranny or is it a Devorced type T-case?

that t-case will be a mated 205 (77 was the last year for divorced :)). But yeah any c6 with the big block bolt pattern will work as long as its a 4wd trany (to avoid swapping tailshafts), you just gotta be careful with the tc adapter housings so that they are the same leenght or within an inch or two (best bet would be the 80+ trucks with a 460 4wd truck to find what you need, might have to do a little diggin if you have the short tc to tranny adapter). But enough with the tech (as it should be posted elseware :)), sounds like you have one very nice truck that'll go through some mud :), oh yeah before i forget i think you are going to need a seet of superior axleshafts and ctm ujoints for that front axle along with a 14-71 bling bling blower for that 460 of yours :).

thanx guys, are we better off to buy a rebuilt tranny from truckmart in gp (anyone know anythiong about them?) with the right size adapter 5 and 3/4 for $800 with a 3500 stall and if we get one from the wreckers will it hold up with a 3500 stall, dave says 580 torque???

with a few mods i don't think that a c6 would have no problems with that amount of torque. (the 460's in stock form should be in the low 400's anyway). But aside from that I've never heard of those guys. But a couple places i'd stay away from would be Pat's Driveline and the Gear Centre as they tend to over charge everything.

I have dealt with the TruckMart in the past, not my favorite because they are all part of the Harry's Auto Wrecking criminal enterprize here in Grande Prairie.
In my opinion I would forgo the 3500 torque convertor in preference for one with a much lower stall, I think you would find it much better over all for general use & fourwheeling. You could check with the guys @ Northern Transmission too.

Awesome Matt, sounds like you keep fairly busy :), but yeah hang around here enough and you'll be amazed at how much you can pick up, i've at least doubled my knowledge and its safe to say that thats the least ou will do :). But yeah see you around the boards.
