Iowa State Fare

Hi Guys... I've heard that the Iowa State Fair is worth the trip from Omaha. Any of you guys have anything to say about it? Thought maybe it would be a good day trip for me and the family.

There is definitely a day's worth of things to do. These almost always some good shows going on. Last year we saw a Frontier show where a guy threw hatchets and did some tricks, a couple of good comedy shows, comedy/music show "Vocal Trash", Trick bike riding, etc... of course lots of good food, antique tractors and engines, motorcycles, the animals. The list goes on and on.... we didn't even go on the rides or hit the beer tent.

FYI - Usually the last day is 1/2 price with free parking.

Forgive my mis-spelling of Fair... we do things different on the west side of the Missouri river (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it)...

I usually never make it to the rides either, but the kids are at the age where they like them. Guess I should look for a website and see if I can find a schedule or something.

It's been many years since I went, but if you can cover it all in a day, you have been pretty busy, and most likely pretty tired! It's worth the trip, especially if you plan it with a grandstand event.

Worth the trip is up to you, I have heard it's pretty good, but personally I haven't been to any state fair in 25yrs, and ain't likely to ever attend Iowa's (well unless they start having mud drags at the state fair) but thats just me.

Went with the family this past saturday - nice weather and not too many people. Watched "vocal trash" what a show!!! (if you like live music). Yea, almost too much to look at in one day.

Cowboy... It has been a few years since I have been to either Iowa or NE fair but the IA fair will blow the NE fair out of the water. There is a reason that the NE fair loses money every year. I personally would rather drive 3 hours to the IA fair then the 1 hour to Lincoln. I know this is really a mute point as they are both over but you may keep it in mind for next year.

iowa state fair is one of the best in the midwest. People drive in from everywhere for it. The attendence is usually more then the population of des moines. It is definlty something worth going too.

I never made it over to the NE fair either. I haven't heard much good about it. Everyone I asked around here said the IA fair was well worth the drive. Thanks for the info, hopefully next year I'll make it to DM.
