Where is the ICP sensor located?? Code P2285

Where is the ICP sensor located?? I am getting code P2285 and according a to a Ford Message this may be because of a bad connection that there is a kit to fix it.

On a 2003 6.0L the ICP sensor is located behind and down below the turbo facing the drivers side. Both the regulator (IPR) and sensor (ICP) are there. The ICP is the furthest back and it should have a silver covered insulator covering it. It may help you to know that the ICP is a three wire connector and the IPR is a two color wire.

Thank you. Can it be accessed without removing anything? Truck runs just as good as it always has except it has the engine light on from that code.

hey im curious what does the icp do and what does it stand for? how do you know you have a bad sensor?, is there a way of knowing with out scanning it or its one of those that you must scan to find?

PSD6litre40 07-17-2005 09:45 PM

my truck when I installed my Quadzilla I mis-plugged the ICP and thought it was plugged in when it wasn;t. Quadzilla box didn;t work and threw a check engine code, so I toke to a buds shop and hooked it up to the OTC Genisys and it showed ICP sensor which on my 04 is located behind the turbocharger. The truck ran and drove fine and it wasn't even plugged in. I am guessing the computer compensates to set values in the ECM coding when a failure like this occurs..............

I wondered the same thing although my truck has started surging since the light and code got set. It has even died a few times and an idle.

But an bad ICP causes mucho grande problems.

Hmmmm...Bad EGR Valve = problems...disable EGR Valve no problems
Bad ICP = Problems...disable Icp....naaaaah. Surely not.

DOH!

Brian460 07-17-2005 09:59 PM

HHHHHHHHHHHHHmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

KW, you may be onto something there.

ICP replaced so far fixed my stalling issue. It was spiking to 4200 psi whe it surged.

Industrial_dude 07-19-2005 08:17 PM

damn! 4200 psi were you pulling a train?

Ford_Doctor 07-19-2005 10:36 PM

4200 psi is way above spec.

04excursion_psd 07-20-2005 05:07 PM

LOL when it surged, it wanted to take off. So what is this black box the service writer told me about? So far so good.

Brian460 07-23-2005 07:22 PM

Update dealer replaced my ICP sensor and the three wire pig tail. Everything is great again. Thanks all.

Well, at least Ford's specs. They get higher than that when you throw the ICP/R system into open loop and set the regulator to 100% DC :-X03

The ICP system is the cause of many, many, many surging problems. It still amazes me that another member here (me1mkee) has these exact symptoms, while both Ford and his dealer refuse to replace a 60 dollar sensor. Maybe with the recall out he will get his truck fixed.

Brian460 07-23-2005 07:35 PM

Yep, and when it is tuned the surge is really bad. Like it could make you rearend somebody if your foot is not firmly on the brake.

Mine also seems quiter at an idle than it did before, but this may be mine imagination.

They did not reflash it.
