propane/fuel pump question

Hello all,

I'm converting one of my vehicles to dual fuel gas/propane. In order to switch over to propane, I would need to disable the fuel pump in the car. Now, I have two options. I can keep the stock mechanical fuel pump and install a fuel cut off, or I can replace my mechanical pump with an electric pump and install a switch to cut power to the pump. Now, my question is:If I cut fuel flow to the mechanical pump, would I cause undue wear to the mechanical pump? I would rather not have to keep replacing mechanical pumps, but this set-up is cheaper. Any ideas? -Will

I have run a number of trucks with dual system----utilizing electric solinoid to cut off gas supply from mechanical fuel pump. Should not cause undue harm to mechanical pump----should keep a little bit of gas in tank to keep pump diaphram from drying out.

It is also a good idea to occasionally switch back over on gas to keep carburetor from drying out or gumming up. One word of caution----never did have much luck with the later models running full computerized injector systems----always had good luck on the old straight carburetor set ups.

Sorry to be so long in picking this post up----I don't check in that often. Good luck
