will a 1985 460 engine with egr survive without the egr???

sure - mine does. In California though, I think you better be wary.

I always get a new gasket and then fab a 1/4" aluninum plate and block the egr off leaving the egr in place so the smog cops won't wet themselves. If yours in carburated (should be) you make have to do some jet changes.

Trans Dapt offers carb spacers that will replace your original EGR plate & close off the vaccum lines in the intake manifold. Simple install, pull the carb off and the egr spacer, throw them away and mount this one. I got a model 2199 when I switched over my carb to a square bore holley 4160. I havent got mine up and running yet (see prior posts) but I've heard excellent things about them. Really well enginered. You can get them at jegs for around 50 buck to your door.
